Tierney's Top 20 Finish Propels UU to 7th at MEC Championships
Wheeling Jesuit overcame a 10-stroke deficit in the third round and edged Notre Dame College for the first Mountain East Conference championship at The Resort at Glade Springs. The Cardinals shot a final round 327 for a total of 988. Notre Dame College finished five strokes back at 993, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan at 995. Charleston finished fourth (1,031), followed by Concord (1,034), West Liberty (1,082), Urbana (1,105), UVa-Wise (1,164) and Glenville State (1,192).
Urbana sophomore Courtney Tierney earned a solo 17th place finish in the field of 45 with consistent rounds of 86, 88 and 86 over the Sunday, Monday, Tuesday tournament. Tierney paced the Blue Knights in each of their final two tournaments. Read More
Women's Golf Breaks School Record Twice at OWUSep. 15th, 2013
On the opening day of the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Invitational, the Urbana University women's golf team broke a 5-year old school record by 5 strokes. As an encore on Day 2 of the tournament on Sunday, Urbana's squad shaved 5 more strokes off their team score to shoot a program-low 334. The Blue Knights finished in 5th place in a field of 9, keeping their fall record above .500 at 10-9 overall. Four of Urbana's five golfers shot career bests at the Par 72 Safari Golf Club. Sophomore Courtney Tierney followed her 84 on Saturday with an 81 on Sunday, leading the Blue Knights with a combined 165 and a 6th place showing in the field of 62 golfers. That 2-day tournament score is also a career-best for Tierney, and it tied the 3rd lowest score in program history. Her Sunday 81 is tied for 5th lowest in program history. Read More
Women's Golf Settles for 6th out of 12 Teams at DenisonSep. 8th, 2013
The Urbana University women's golf team turned in an impressive debut this fall season at the 12-team Denison Invitational this weekend. After Saturday's round, the Blue Knights found themselves in 2nd place overall with a team score of 355, trailing only their hosts from Denison. Sunday saw Urbana shoot a cumulative 363, and the 8-stroke difference opened the door for four teams to overcome Urbana. At the end of play on Sunday, Urbana finished in 6th place overall as a team, and the Blue Knights' top finisher, junior Lindsey Phillips, earned a 7th place individual showing in the field of 79. 33 Blue Knights Named to G-MAC Academic All-Conference TeamJun. 18th, 2013
On Monday afternoon, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its inaugural Academic All-Conference Team. The team features 189 student-athletes from five of the conference member institutions, covering 12 championship sponsored sports from the 2012-13 season.
Urbana University was represented on the Academic All-Conference Team by 33 student-athletes from its G-MAC affiliated sports in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men and women's golf, baseball and softball. Read More
Women's Golf Scrambles into Runner-up Finish at G-MAC ChampionshipsApr. 23th, 2013
The Urbana University women’s golf team overcame a three-shot deficit on Day 1 of the G-MAC Championships to finish in second place in the team’s first conference tournament since transitioning to NCAA Division II. On Monday, the Blue Knights trailed Ursuline College 355 to 352, but a team score of 346 on Tuesday was more than enough to overtake the Arrows, who shot a 358 on Tuesday, for the conference’s runner-up position.
The Blue Knights were led by freshman Courtney Tierney. Tierney followed Monday’s 89 with an 83 on Tuesday to lead her squad for the first time this spring. The collegiate rookie turned in the team’s lowest tournament score twice in the fall. She finished alone in fourth place overall to earn All-Conference honors in her first season. Read More
