Fach Rolls Perfect Game, 800 Series at 2014 USBC Open

From the time his flight landed in Reno on Tuesday morning, Graham Fach of Urbana, Ohio, was on the move, and that included a quick stop at his hotel, a to-go order at Denny's, a quick march down Center Aisle at the National Bowling Stadium and a record-performance at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

The 22-year-old left-hander barely had time to look around and admire the grandeur of the NBS before hitting the lanes at the one-of-a-kind venue for the first time, and three hours later, he polished off the ninth perfect game and first 800 series of the 2014 event. Read More

Bowlers Compete at Intercollegiate Club Championships

Apr. 8th, 2014

This past weekend, both the Blue Knight men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Boom Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships. This was the first year for the tournament that is open to the top 25 non-NAIA college bowling programs in the nation.

Competing teams were split into different pools of 6 teams, much like the World Cup or Olympic hockey format. After pool play, the Blue Knight men finished with a record of 4-2. The team also owned the highest total pin fall after the 6 games in their pool which was enough to earn them a first round bye going into Sunday morning. The Lady Blue Knights finished their pool play with a record of 5-1, but there was no bye in the women’s division. Read More

UU Bowlers Qualify for Nationals

Mar. 18th, 2014

This past weekend, the Urbana University men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in the USBC’s Sectional Qualifying Tournament hosted in Smyrna, Tennessee. The tournament was a grueling 64-game format over two days of competition. On the singles side, the top six individual bowlers at the end of play advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships. Senior James Tucker III, who also serves as the Student Body President at UU, was the only Blue Knight to qualify individually. Tucker III finished 6th in the field of 172 bowlers.

In the team competition, 20 different squads competed in the sectional qualifier. The top four men’s and women’s programs earned the right to advance to the National Championships. After 2 hard-fought days on the lanes, the UU women’s team finished in 9th place, 613 pins outside of an advancing position. The Blue Knight men, however, made program history by finishing in third place and earning a spot in the National Team Championships. It marks the first time in school history that a bowling team will represent Urbana University at the National Championships. Members of the men’s team include Tucker III, Graham Fach, Brock Finch, Andrew Allen, Kyle Mayberry, Dustin Johnson, Kyle Cook and Chase Carter. Read More
