Bowlers Edged by Lindenwood in National Title Match

It wasn’t supposed to end like this. The Urbana University men’s bowlers were the Cinderella darlings of the 2014 Intercollegiate Team Championships. The week started with Blue Knight Graham Fach bowling the first 300 game and 800 series of the 2014 Open Championships. Then, smallest school in the draw got hot and took down bowling Goliaths from Robert Morris University and Wichita State University.

Destiny seemed to be smiling on Urbana until a couple of tenth frames didn’t go the Blue Knights’ way in Friday night’s National Championship match with Lindenwood University. After losing the first two games by a total of seven pins, Lindenwood completed the three-game sweep in the best of five series with a 201-167 victory in the decisive game. Read More

Blue Knight Bowlers Advance to National Championship Match

Apr. 17th, 2014

On the brink of elimation and needing 3 strikes in the tenth frame to knock off top-seeded Wichita State University, lefty anchor Graham Fach rolled three perfect balls to send the Urbana University men's bowling team to the National Championship match on Friday. Fourth-seeded Urbana advances after a marathon day to meet the third-seeded Lindenwood Lions for the Men's Team Championship on Friday at 5:00 p.m. local time, 8:00 p.m. Eastern. The match will be a best 3 out of 5 format. There is no live video coverage of the Championship, but it will air on Tuesday nights throughout the month of May on CBS Sports Network. Follow @UUSports on Twitter or "Blue Knight" on Facebook for live updates on Friday night. Read More

Fach Rolls Perfect Game, 800 Series at 2014 USBC Open

Apr. 16th, 2014

From the time his flight landed in Reno on Tuesday morning, Graham Fach of Urbana, Ohio, was on the move, and that included a quick stop at his hotel, a to-go order at Denny's, a quick march down Center Aisle at the National Bowling Stadium and a record-performance at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships.

The 22-year-old left-hander barely had time to look around and admire the grandeur of the NBS before hitting the lanes at the one-of-a-kind venue for the first time, and three hours later, he polished off the ninth perfect game and first 800 series of the 2014 event. Read More

Bowlers Compete at Intercollegiate Club Championships

Apr. 8th, 2014

This past weekend, both the Blue Knight men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in Indianapolis, Indiana for the Boom Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships. This was the first year for the tournament that is open to the top 25 non-NAIA college bowling programs in the nation.

Competing teams were split into different pools of 6 teams, much like the World Cup or Olympic hockey format. After pool play, the Blue Knight men finished with a record of 4-2. The team also owned the highest total pin fall after the 6 games in their pool which was enough to earn them a first round bye going into Sunday morning. The Lady Blue Knights finished their pool play with a record of 5-1, but there was no bye in the women’s division. Read More
