Blue Knights Fall in 5 against A-B

URBANA, Ohio (October 17, 2012) - Just a single point away from a straight sets sweep of visiting Alderson-Broaddus College, the Urbana University volleyball team failed to close the door at home on Wednesday night.  Already ahead 2 sets to none, the home team led 24-23 before the Battlers stormed back to stay alive with a 28-26 victory in set #3.  Riding the wave of momentum, A-B finished the comeback with wins of 25-20 and 15-11 in the final two sets.

The Battlers even their season mark at 13-13 with the win.  Urbana falls to 6-17 overall, but the loss is just their fifth in the past 30 days.  The Blue Knights have only lost to two opponents with records below .500.

Despite the loss, several Blue Knights put up impressive numbers.  Kelsey Volkmer tallied 21 kills in 62 attempts.  The sophomore hitter also added 11 digs.  Hitters Chelsea Winderl and Katlin Kremer each totaled 10 kills.  Kremer hit .304 and chipped in 3 block assists.  Megan Verhoff added 8 kills on just 15 attempts, hitting .400 on the night.  Mary Hendricks converted 6 of her 7 attempts, hitting an incredible .857.  Hendricks leads the G-MAC in attack percentage at .365.  The freshman also had 47 assists and 15 digs.  Amy Hickman led all Blue Knights defensively with 19 digs.  Kayli Lucius chipped in 16 digs and Karla Vogel added 14.

On Friday night, the Blue Knights battle future conference foe Notre Dame College for the second time in seven days.  Last Friday night, Urbana upended NDC in 5 sets in South Euclid.  This time, the rivals meet in Urbana's Grimes Center for a 6:00 p.m. Homecoming kickoff match. [Box Score]
