Urbana Sweeps Central State
WILBERFORCE, Ohio (October 9, 2012) - The Blue Knight volleyball team got back on track on Tuesday night at conference foe Central State University. Just three days after nearly knocking off area rival and reinging D-III National Champ Wittenberg, Urbana swept the Lady Marauders 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 to improve to 3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
The Blue Knights sit alone in second place in the G-MAC. Central State remains winless on the season at 0-8 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Leading the Urbana attack was sophomore hitter Kelsey Volkmer. Volkmer had a match-high 14 kills, 5 blocks, and 2 aces in the win. Senior Karla Vogel inched closer to second place all-time at Urbana with 30 assists in the match. Vogel now has 2,536 career assists, which is just 138 behind Cara Metz for second all-time at UU.
Urbana (5-15) has won 2 straight on the road after dropping their first 12 matches away from home in 2012. On Friday night, the Blue Knights travel to future Mountain East Conference rival Notre Dame College for a 7:00 p.m. match.
