Volkmer Named G-MAC Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana (October 1, 2012)  - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Kelsey Volkmer from Urbana University, has been named the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week.

Kelsey Volkmer combined for 53 kills and 28 digs in a tri-match sweep of conference opponents Trevecca Nazarene University and Ursuline College on Saturday.

Her 37 kills in a 5-set win over TNU were a school record, smashing her previous record by 12 kills, hitting .479 on a school record 71 attempts. Volkmer also contributed a team-high 13 kills in a straight sets victory over Kentucky State earlier in the week, and eight kills in a loss to UNOH giving her 74 kills on the week.

Behind Volkmer, who also totaled 42 digs this week, the Blue Knights are currently on a three-match winning streak after opening the season 1-13. Check out g-macsports.com for more conference news all season long.
