Nationally Ranked Racers Continue Urbana's Slide
LIMA, Ohio (September 25, 2012) - The Urbana University volleyball team ran into the wrong team to stop their losing streak on Tuesday night. The NAIA nationally ranked Racers from the University of Northwestern Ohio won their 16th straight match, improving to 20-1 by dispatching the Blue Knights in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18. The loss is Urbana's 9th straight overall. The Blue Knights are still in search of their first victory away from the Grimes Center this season.
Urbana opened the first set in fine fashion, pushing the red-hot Racers to 19-18 before dropping 6 of the final 7 points. From there, the home team turned up the heat, winning the second and third sets much more convincingly.
Kelsey Volkmer led the way for UU, finishing with team highs in kills (8) and digs (11). Freshman setter Mary Hendricks had a team-best 19 assists.
On Thursday night, Urbana has one more road tune-up before hosting a G-MAC tri-match on Saturday. The Blue Knights travel to Frankfort, Kentucky to battle the Thorobreds from Kentucky State University at 7:00 p.m. Last season, Urbana scored a win over KSU in Urbana. [Box Score]
