33 Blue Knights Named to G-MAC Academic All-Conference Team
Jun. 18th, 2013On Monday afternoon, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its inaugural Academic All-Conference Team. The team features 189 student-athletes from five of the conference member institutions, covering 12 championship sponsored sports from the 2012-13 season.
Urbana University was represented on the Academic All-Conference Team by 33 student-athletes from its G-MAC affiliated sports in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men and women's golf, baseball and softball. Read More
Volleyball Signs 10, Releases Schedule
May. 22nd, 2013Second-year Head Coach Troy Haught announced a record-breaking recruiting class this week. Ten new Blue Knights will be added to the mix for the 2013 season, Urbana’s first as a member of the new 12-team Mountain East Conference.
“I am very excited about our 2013 class,” announced Coach Haught. “Adding ten to our roster will make for a more competitive atmosphere in our program and help take us in the direction we are looking to go. The group we have coming in will blend well with our current returners. They are very talented and bring a lot of experience from the high school and club levels. UU Eliminated in 5 Sets at G-MAC Tourney
Nov. 16th, 2012For the second time in a week, the Urbana University volleyball team fell to conference foe Trevecca Nazarene University. The second-seeded Trojans eliminated the third-seeded Blue Knights in the G-MAC semifinals in five sets, 25-19, 23-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-8. The Blue Knights fell in the opening set before bouncing back with a pair of wins to take a 2-1 lead. Volkmer Headlines UU's 6 All-Conference Selections
Nov. 16th, 2012The Great Midwest Athletic Conference released its 2012 Volleyball Awards on Friday, just prior to the inaugural G-MAC Volleyball Championships. The tournament, hosted by top seed Cedarville University, begins this afternoon. Five of the seven spots on the First Team went to top-seeded Cedarville. Player of the Year Johnson grabbed another spot, and Urbana University sophomore hitter Kelsey Volkmer received the other. Read More

Nov. 15th, 2012On Friday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference will host its first-ever Volleyball Conference Championship Tournament games, as the 2012 Volleyball Championships begin at Cedarville University with a opening round match-up between #5 seed Central State University and #4 seed Ursuline College. The winner will advance to the semifinals and face #1 seed and host Cedarville University following the tournaments other semifinal match between #3 seed Urbana University and #2 seed Trevecca Nazarene University. Volleyball Drops Last 2 Regular Season Matches
Nov. 10th, 2012In a regular season-ending tri-match at Kentucky Wesleyan College, the Urbana University volleyball team finished 0-2 against nationally ranked Lewis University and the host Panthers. Lewis swept Urbana 25-20, 25-13, 25-11, and in the late match, the home team prevailed 25-11, 25-20, 25-23. Playing well in defeat for the Blue Knights was Katlin Kremer. Trojans Take Key G-MAC Match
Nov. 9th, 2012The Urbana University volleyball team dropped a key G-MAC matchup at Trevecca Nazarene University on Friday night. The Trojans avenged an earlier 5-set loss at UU by bringing down the Blue Knights in straight sets, 25-21, 25-19, 27-25. Urbana led late in the third set and appeared ready to push the match into extra frames, but the Trojans rallied in front of their home crowd to earn the season split. Urbana Upends Ursuline in Straight Sets
Nov. 2nd, 2012On Friday night on the road, the Urbana University volleyball team took down conference foe Ursuline College 25-19, 25-21, 25-21. The win allowed Urbana to maintain its spot in second place in the G-MAC with one match remaining before the conference tournament. Urbana improved to 10-19 overall and 5-2 in the G-MAC. CU Stings UU, Takes Control of G-MAC
Oct. 30th, 2012On Tuesday night at home, the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets captured a key G-MAC matchup with Urbana University. The Yellow Jackets swept the Blue Knights 25-11, 25-22, 25-16 to fend off their closest competitor in the conference standings. The loss is the second of the season in conference play for the 4-2 Blue Knights. Both defeats came at the hands of the Yellow Jackets, who improve to 26-5 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Cedarville can clinch the regular season championship and right to host the G-MAC tournament next week with a victory against winless Central State on Friday night. UU Thumps Thorobreds on Senior Day
Oct. 27th, 2012On Senior Day in the regular season home finale at Urbana University, the Blue Knight volleyball team swept the Thorobreds from Kentucky State University 25-18, 25-9, 25-12. Before the match, Urbana honored its three seniors, Katie Miller, Amy Hickman and Karla Vogel, and during the match, their teammates sent their veterans out on a high note with a dominant victory. Urbana hit .511 as a team. It's the second time this week Urbana connected on more than half of their attempts in a straight-sets victory. Toppers Take Down Blue Knights
Oct. 25th, 2012For the second time this season, the Hilltoppers from West Liberty University brought down the Blue Knight volleyball team. Urbana's future conference foe took three tight sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-22 to complete the season sweep. Back on September 1st, WLU defeated Urbana in 5 sets at the Fairmont State Invitational. The loss snapped a two-match winning streak for the Blue Knights. Urbana now sits at 8-18 on the year, while West Liberty improves to 13-11. Blue Knights Break Team Record in Rout
Oct. 23th, 2012In an impressive display of offense, the Urbana University volleyball team completed a straight sets sweep of visiting Central State on Tuesday night in the Grimes Center. Urbana's front row dominated in a 25-7, 25-11, 25-7 conference win over the Lady Marauders. Leading the Urbana attack was sophomore hitter Kelsey Volkmer. Volkmer improved her conference lead in kills by adding 12 in just 18 attempts. Hitters Katlin Kremer (pictured), Megan Verhoff, and Chelsea Winderl were all very efficient at the net as well. Kremer had 9 kills in 13 attempts. Verhoff smashed 6 kills in 9 attempts, and Winderl finished with 6 kills in 11 attempts. As a team, Urbana hit an incredible .541, which beat the previous single match team record of .472. Volkmer .611 attack percentage is the third highest in a match during UU's D-II era. Read More

Oct. 19th, 2012Just one week after finishing off the Falcons in five sets at Notre Dame College, the Urbana University volleyball team completed the season sweep with a straight sets victory over their future conference foes. The Blue Knights defeated the Falcons 25-11, 25-16, 25-23 to pick up their sixth win in their last ten matches. NDC falls to 4-19 on the season. Blue Knights Fall in 5 against A-B
Oct. 17th, 2012Just a single point away from a straight sets sweep of visiting Alderson-Broaddus College, the Urbana University volleyball team failed to close the door at home on Wednesday night. Already ahead 2 sets to none, the home team led 24-23 before the Battlers stormed back to stay alive with a 28-26 victory in set #3. Riding the wave of momentum, A-B finished the comeback with wins of 25-20 and 15-11 in the final two sets. The Battlers even their season mark at 13-13 with the win. Urbana falls to 6-17 overall, but the loss is just their fifth in the past 30 days. The Blue Knights have only lost to two opponents with records below .500. Mary Hendricks converted 6 of her 7 attempts, hitting an incredible .857. Hendricks leads the G-MAC in attack percentage at .365. The freshman also had 47 assists and 15 digs. Read More
#18 Red Wolves Race Past Blue Knights
Oct. 16th, 2012The Urbana University volleyball team lost for just the third time in the past 23 days, falling in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 on the road at NAIA #18 Indiana University-East. The loss snapped a season-long three-match road winning streak by Urbana. It's Urbana's fifth loss to a nationally ranked opponent. IU-East, meanwhile, improved to 29-2 on the year, winning their sixth straight contest. Urbana's attack was led by Katlin Kremer (6 kills), Kelsey Volkmer (6 kills) and Chelsea Winderl (5 kills). Volkmer Wins 2nd G-MAC Player of the Week Award
Oct. 15th, 2012The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Kelsey Volkmer from Urbana University, has been named the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Volkmer guided the Blue Knights to a perfect 2-0 week, while recording an amazing 45 kills in two matches. In the first match of the week, a 3-0 road win over conference foe Central State, Volkmer recorded 14 kills to go with a pair of aces and a block. Blue Knights Prevail in 5 at NDC
Oct. 12th, 2012The Blue Knight volleyball team won their 5th match in their last 7 outings, outlasting the Falcons from Notre Dame College in 5 thrilling sets. Urbana raced out to a 2-0 lead, winning the first 2 sets 25-19, 28-26, but the Falcons wouldn't go quietly in front of their home crowd. NDC stormed back to take sets 3 and 4 by scores of 25-18, 25-17, setting the stage for a fifth set tiebreaker that the Blue Knights won by a score of 15-13. Urbana Sweeps Central State
Oct. 9th, 2012The Blue Knight volleyball team got back on track on Tuesday night at conference foe Central State University. Just three days after nearly knocking off area rival and reinging D-III National Champ Wittenberg, Urbana swept the Lady Marauders 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 to improve to 3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Blue Knights sit alone in second place in the G-MAC. Senior Karla Vogel inched closer to second place all-time at Urbana with 30 assists in the match. Oct. 6th, 2012The Urbana University volleyball team saw a three-match winning streak halted on Saturday afternoon at a home tri-match. The Blue Knights dropped a pair of tight matches against Fairmont State University and the reigning Division III National Champs from Wittenberg University. Oct. 1st, 2012The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Kelsey Volkmer from Urbana University, has been named the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week. Kelsey Volkmer combined for 53 kills and 28 digs in a tri-match sweep of conference opponents Trevecca Nazarene University and Ursuline College on Saturday. Her 37 kills in a 5-set win over TNU were a school record, smashing her previous record by 12 kills, hitting .479 on a school record 71 attempts. Read More

Sep. 29th, 2012Urbana University sophomore hitter Kelsey Volkmer turned in a record breaking performance on Saturday afternoon as the Blue Knight volleyball team swept a pair of crucial conference matches against visiting Trevecca Nazarene and Ursuline. The NAIA nationally ranked Racers from the University of Northwestern Ohio won their 16th straight match, improving to 20-1 by dispatching the Blue Knights in straight sets, 25-19, 25-12, 25-18. Sep. 18th, 2012The Urbana University volleyball team dropped their first home match of the season on Tuesday night, falling in straight sets in their G-MAC conference opener against visiting Cedarville University. Volleyball Shows Improvement During Winless Weekend

UU Volleyball to Host Camp on July 29
Jun. 26th, 2012Head Coach Troy Haught and the Blue Knight volleyball program will host a camps on July 29 for area players. Camp costs $30 per player. On Sunday, July 29th, the Blue Knights welcome all players to an All-Skills Camp from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Campers are welcome to stay afterwards to meet the 2012 Blue Knights as they participate in an open gym. Haught Hires Carder to Assist UU Volleyball
Jun. 25th, 2012This week, first-year Blue Knight Volleyball Head Coach Troy Haught hired his first assistant in preparation for the 2012 season. Haught and Urbana University welcome Liz Carder to the staff.
Carder comes to Urbana from nearby Triad High School, where she spent each of the past 6 seasons with the Cardinals. Carder began as an assistant and Head JV Coach at Triad in 2006. She was promoted to Head Coach in 2008. She served in that capacity for each of the past 4 seasons. Read More

Urbana Volleyball Adds Indian Lake's Jones
Apr. 24th, 2012Today, Urbana University Head Volleyball Coach Troy Haught introduced Indian Lake High School’s Maci Jones as the team’s newest addition to the 2012 roster. Jones has experience playing both outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Lakers. She began playing volleyball 8 years ago, and this past season as a senior, she finished with 223 kills, 211 digs, and 29 blocks. As a hitter, Jones owned a respectable .268 kill efficiency. She served 61 aces while sporting a serve efficiency of 84%. Jones earned First Team All-CBC and First Team All-District 9 honors for her efforts. Read More
Haught Adds Hendricks to Mix for Fall
Apr. 17th, 2012New Blue Knight volleyball Head Coach Troy Haught signed his first recruit last week. Urbana High School product Mary Hendricks signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Blue Knights, beginning this fall. Hendricks starred as a senior setter and defensive specialist for the 24-2 Hillclimbers this past fall. She racked up 693 assists, 224 digs, 63 aces, 61 kills and 31 blocks in 26 matches, earning First Team All-Central Buckeye Conference honors. Read More
