Volkmer Named 2nd Team All-MECNov. 20th, 2013
Urbana University volleyball standout Kelsey Volkmer (Galion, Ohio/Colonel Crawford HS) earned All-Mountain East Conference honors on Wednesday. Volkmer was the Blue Knights' lone representative on the all-conference squad after a 10-19 season and 8th place finish in the MEC. The junior hitter made All-MEC Second Team in her third season at UU.
Volkmer appeared in all 29 matches and 102 sets this season, pacing the Urbana offense with 267 kills. On November 9th, she became just the 3rd Blue Knight in the program's 40-year history to reach 1,000 career kills. Read More

Just five days after the Urbana University volleyball team ended the regular season with a dominating 3-0 win over West Virginia State University, the same two teams met again in UU's Grimes Center on Tuesday night. The teams, location and rowdy home crowd were all the same, but the result was much, much different. A re-energized Yellow Jacket squad stung back and ended Urbana's season with a 25-19, 29-27, 24-26, 25-13 stunner.

Volleyball to Host MEC Tournament Match Tuesday, "Blue Out" WVSU!Nov. 18th, 2013
With a 3-0 win over West Virginia State University on Friday night, the Urbana University volleyball team earned the right to host a first round Mountain East Conference tournament match on Tuesday night. The Blue Knights leapfrogged the Yellow Jackets into the #8 seed. WVSU had to settle for the #9 seed, and now must return to the Grimes Center on Tuesday at 7 PM to battle the Blue Knights in an elimination match.
The Blue Knight volleyball team is seeking their first post-season win since the 2006 season. The Grimes Center Gymnasium was packed on Friday night during Urbana's straight sets win over the Yellow Jackets. Urbana University senior volleyball player Chelsea Winderl will have one more opportunity to play in front of the home crowd. Winderl's Blue Knights knocked off visiting West Virginia State University on Senior Night Friday to secure a first round home match in the Mountain East Conference Tournament. Urbana upended the Yellow Jackets 25-19, 25-15, 25-21.
The Blue Knights had to win their final two matches of the season to earn the right to host, and each match pitted Urbana against a squad ahead of the Blue Knights in the MEC standings. First, Urbana took care of West Liberty University in 4 sets on Saturday. Then, the Blue Knights topped State in the Grimes Center in the regular season finale to leapfrog the Yellow Jackets in the final standings. Volleyball Avenges Loss, Defends Home Court vs. WLU (Update)Nov. 9th, 2013
For the second time in two weeks, the Hilltopper volleyball team from West Liberty University and the Blue Knights from Urbana University squared off in a conference match. The first meeting was a 5-set thriller that went WLU's way in West Virginia. Saturday afternoon’s match went the Blue Knights' way as Urbana avenged the earlier loss in a 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-16 four-set victory in the Grimes Center.
In a 12-10 match in the fourth set, Blue Knight sophomore Mary Hendricks started to serve. By the time she was finished, UU had doubled the Toppers' score and the final result was inevitable. The Wheeling Jesuit University volleyball team maintained their perfect Mountain East Conference record on Friday night, running through the Blue Knights in straight sets in the Grimes Center, 25-9, 25-13, 25-16. The Cardinals have won each of their first 13 conference matches, including 12 in straight sets. Urbana dropped all 6 of their sets this year against the nationally ranked Cardinals. The closest they came to a set victory was an 8-point loss at WJU two weeks ago.

The Urbana University volleyball team snapped a season-long 6 match losing streak on the road on Tuesday night, defeating Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame College in four sets, 25-21, 25-19, 13-25, 25-22. Notre Dame needed a win to tie the Blue Knights in the MEC standings. Instead, Urbana increases their lead to 2 wins over the Falcons. With two weeks left in the regular season, the Urbana occupies the 9th position in the MEC. Notre Dame sits in the cellar at 2-11.
Pacing the Urbana offense on Tuesday night was junior outside hitter Brooke Turner. Turner smashed a match-high 13 kills in just 25 attempts. She logged no errors for a career-high .520 hitting percentage, the sixth highest single-match mark in the program's D-II era. Read More

The Urbana University volleyball team was unable to end their losing streak on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Knights dropped their sixth straight decision, including their fifth straight on the road, at MEC foe Shepherd University. The Rams completed the season sweep of Urbana, winning 3 sets to 1.
Chelsea Winderl led all Blue Knight hitters with a match-high 12 kills. Sophomore setter Mary Hendricks handed out 36 assists. Winderl and Hendricks also led the team in digs, racking up 14 apiece. Two teams headed in different directions clashed at Fairmont State University on Friday night. The home Falcons soared to their 6th straight win with a straight sets win over the visiting Blue Knights. The loss was Urbana's 5th straight conference loss. The last four defeats have come on the road.
Fairmont State improved to 22-4 overall and 10-1 in the MEC to maintain their spot in second place. Urbana slips to 7-16 overall and 3-8 in the conference. The nationally ranked Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit University ran their impressive winning streak to 21 matches in a row on Saturday afternoon against the visiting Blue Knights from Urbana University. Wheeling Jesuit’s last loss came in their season-opening tournament in Pensacola, Florida on September 7th. Win #21 was a straight sets victory on their home court over Urbana. In a battle between teams tied for the 8th spot in the Mountain East Conference, West Liberty University got a little boost from their home crowd in a 3-2 victory over visiting Urbana University. The Toppers raced out to a two sets to none lead with wins of 26-24 and 25-13, but the Blue Knights charged back by first staving off defeat with a 26-24 win in set #3, then dominating the home team 25-11 in the fourth set before falling 15-7 in the fifth-set tiebreaker.

The Blue Knight volleyball team couldn't find a way to slay the Dragons from Tiffin University on Tuesday night. Urbana slipped to 4-8 out of conference with a 3-0 loss at Tiffin.
The Dragons dominated the first set by scoring 18 of the night's first 21 points en route to an easy 25-7 win. From there, Urbana improved, but the visitors still came up short in the last two sets 25-15 and 25-18. At the start of the season in Urbana, the Blue Knights shutout the Storm 3-0. The University of Charleston volleyball team defended its home court with a straight sets victory over Urbana on Friday night. The two teams entered the contest tied in the MEC standings. The Golden Eagles held off Urbana 25-15, 25-21, 25-20 to gain an edge over the Blue Knights heading into the home stretch of conference games. Charleston improves to 12-6 overall and 3-3 in the MEC, while Urbana slips to 5-11 and 2-4 in conference play. Playing in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, the Urbana University volleyball team snapped a two-match home losing streak on Tuesday night, knocking off visiting Notre Dame College in a 5-set thriller. The crowd was larger than usual thanks to strong support for the team's annual "Volley for the Cure" match, and the Blue Knights needed the extra boost to win their first 5-set match of the season. Urbana opened match with a quick 25-16 win in the first set, but the Falcons answered with 25-22 and 25-17 victories in the second and third sets. The Blue Knights forced a fifth-set tiebreaker with a 25-18 win in set #4. Back in the Grimes Center just 16 hours after a 3-1 loss to Shepherd University on Friday night, the Blue Knight volleyball team suffered another 3-1 conference loss at home on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Falcons from Fairmont State University were the victors this time, leaving town with a 25-19, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21 victory. With the win, FSU improves to 14-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in MEC play. Urbana falls to 4-10 overall and 1-3 in the MEC after the loss. Hendricks Hands Out 1,000th Assist in 3-1 Loss to RamsOct. 4th, 2013
The Urbana University volleyball team nearly won their first home Mountain East Conference contest on Friday night, but the visiting Rams from Shepherd University escaped with an important road win instead. The teams traded wins back and forth through the first three sets. Shepherd won the opener 25-16, followed by a dominant 25-9 Blue Knight victory in set #2, and a Ram 25-20 win in the third set. Urbana pushed the Rams to the brink in the fourth set, but the visitors edged Urbana late 27-25.
Despite the loss, one Blue Knight hit a major milestone on Friday night. Sophomore setter Mary Hendricks recorded her 1,000th career assist in the third set. She becomes just the 7th Blue Knight in program history to top 1,000 career assists, and she achieved the feat in less than a season and a half. The Blue Knight volleyball team bagged their first Mountain East Conference win about 18 hours after the team suffered their first MEC loss. The Urbana University volleyball team closed out their weekend with a tight 3-set victory over Lake Erie College on Saturday afternoon at the Game Time Sports Center south of Urbana. The win helped the Blue Knights end the invitational on a high note after dropping their first 3 matches, including Friday losses to Bellarmine and Saint Joseph's and an early Saturday morning loss to Saginaw Valley State.
The win over Lake Erie saw the Blue Knights prevail in three straight 25-23 nailbiters. Leading the attack were veterans Chelsea Winderl (pictured) and Kelsey Volkmer. Each racked up 11 kills in the win. Winderl only had 1 error in 28 attempts to finish with an impressive .357 attack percentage. Winderl also led UU's attack in the loss to SVSU. After a difficult weekend at Clarion University, the Urbana University volleyball team got back on track with a big win in the team's home opener on Tuesday night. The Blue Knights dispatched visiting Ohio Valley University in straight sets, 25-14, 25-20, 25-22 to improve to 1-3 on the year. It's the second straight year Urbana won its home opener after a winless opening weekend on the road.

The Urbana University volleyball team experienced a tough opening weekend at Clarion University's Tony Banner Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Blue Knights finished 0-3, dropping 9 of 10 sets against a trio of solid D-II squads. Despite the disappointing debut, several Blue Knights shined on Friday and Saturday. Volleyball Picked 9th in Inaugural MEC Preseason PollAug. 21st, 2013
Wheeling Jesuit is the unanimous favorite of the Mountain East Conference coaches to win the first-ever MEC volleyball title. WJU collected all 12 first-place votes from the coaches. The Cardinals enter the season ranked 18th in the country in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll.
Urbana earned the #9 spot in the inaugural MEC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Blue Knights return 4 all-conference performers, including First Teamer junior Kelsey Volkmer in the middle. On Monday afternoon, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference announced its inaugural Academic All-Conference Team. The team features 189 student-athletes from five of the conference member institutions, covering 12 championship sponsored sports from the 2012-13 season.
Urbana University was represented on the Academic All-Conference Team by 33 student-athletes from its G-MAC affiliated sports in men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men and women's golf, baseball and softball. Read More

For the second time in a week, the Urbana University volleyball team fell to conference foe Trevecca Nazarene University. Before the match, Urbana honored its three seniors, Katie Miller, Amy Hickman and Karla Vogel, and during the match, their teammates sent their veterans out on a high note with a dominant victory. In an impressive display of offense, the Urbana University volleyball team completed a straight sets sweep of visiting Central State on Tuesday night in the Grimes Center. Urbana's front row dominated in a 25-7, 25-11, 25-7 conference win over the Lady Marauders. Leading the Urbana attack was sophomore hitter Kelsey Volkmer. Volkmer improved her conference lead in kills by adding 12 in just 18 attempts. Hitters Katlin Kremer (pictured), Megan Verhoff, and Chelsea Winderl were all very efficient at the net as well. Kremer had 9 kills in 13 attempts. Verhoff smashed 6 kills in 9 attempts, and Winderl finished with 6 kills in 11 attempts. Just a single point away from a straight sets sweep of visiting Alderson-Broaddus College, the Urbana University volleyball team failed to close the door at home on Wednesday night. Already ahead 2 sets to none, the home team led 24-23 before the Battlers stormed back to stay alive with a 28-26 victory in set #3. Riding the wave of momentum, A-B finished the comeback with wins of 25-20 and 15-11 in the final two sets. The Battlers even their season mark at 13-13 with the win. Urbana falls to 6-17 overall, but the loss is just their fifth in the past 30 days. The Blue Knights have only lost to two opponents with records below .500. The Urbana University volleyball team lost for just the third time in the past 23 days, falling in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-17 on the road at NAIA #18 Indiana University-East. The loss snapped a season-long three-match road winning streak by Urbana. It's Urbana's fifth loss to a nationally ranked opponent. IU-East, meanwhile, improved to 29-2 on the year, winning their sixth straight contest. Urbana's attack was led by Katlin Kremer (6 kills), Kelsey Volkmer (6 kills) and Chelsea Winderl (5 kills). The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Kelsey Volkmer from Urbana University, has been named the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. Volkmer guided the Blue Knights to a perfect 2-0 week, while recording an amazing 45 kills in two matches. In the first match of the week, a 3-0 road win over conference foe Central State, Volkmer recorded 14 kills to go with a pair of aces and a block. The Blue Knight volleyball team won their 5th match in their last 7 outings, outlasting the Falcons from Notre Dame College in 5 thrilling sets. Urbana raced out to a 2-0 lead, winning the first 2 sets 25-19, 28-26, but the Falcons wouldn't go quietly in front of their home crowd. NDC stormed back to take sets 3 and 4 by scores of 25-18, 25-17, setting the stage for a fifth set tiebreaker that the Blue Knights won by a score of 15-13. Urbana Sweeps Central StateOct. 9th, 2012
The Blue Knight volleyball team got back on track on Tuesday night at conference foe Central State University. Just three days after nearly knocking off area rival and reinging D-III National Champ Wittenberg, Urbana swept the Lady Marauders 25-18, 25-10, 25-15 to improve to 3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Blue Knights sit alone in second place in the G-MAC. Senior Karla Vogel inched closer to second place all-time at Urbana with 30 assists in the match. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Kelsey Volkmer from Urbana University, has been named the G-MAC Volleyball Athlete of the Week. Kelsey Volkmer combined for 53 kills and 28 digs in a tri-match sweep of conference opponents Trevecca Nazarene University and Ursuline College on Saturday. This week, first-year Blue Knight Volleyball Head Coach Troy Haught hired his first assistant in preparation for the 2012 season. Haught and Urbana University welcome Liz Carder to the staff.
Carder comes to Urbana from nearby Triad High School, where she spent each of the past 6 seasons with the Cardinals. Carder began as an assistant and Head JV Coach at Triad in 2006. She was promoted to Head Coach in 2008. She served in that capacity for each of the past 4 seasons. Read More

Today, Urbana University Head Volleyball Coach Troy Haught introduced Indian Lake High School’s Maci Jones as the team’s newest addition to the 2012 roster. Jones has experience playing both outside hitter and defensive specialist for the Lakers. She began playing volleyball 8 years ago, and this past season as a senior, she finished with 223 kills, 211 digs, and 29 blocks. As a hitter, Jones owned a respectable .268 kill efficiency. New Blue Knight volleyball Head Coach Troy Haught signed his first recruit last week. Urbana High School product Mary Hendricks signed her National Letter of Intent to play volleyball for the Blue Knights, beginning this fall. Hendricks starred as a senior setter and defensive specialist for the 24-2 Hillclimbers this past fall.
