Women's Swim Team Breaks 6 Records at D-I MiamiDec. 7th, 2013
The Urbana University swim teams put the finishing touches on the 2013 portion of their season this weekend at NCAA Division I Miami University. In a field consisting of mostly D-I programs or D-III powerhouses, the Blue Knights were the lone representative from D-II, and they carried the torch proudly for the division. The Blue Knight men broke 10 school records and scored 291 points, despite sitting out the opening session on Thursday night. The UU women smashed 6 school records and finished with 97 points.
Freshman Jennifer Schwartz saved her best performance for the 200 IM and 100 fly races on Saturday. Her time of 2:16.80 was 3 seconds faster than her old mark in the 200 IM, and the freshman became the first female to break the 1-minute barrier in the 100 fly by crushing her old school record with a time 58.46. She made the "C" final, where she swam a 58.13 and earned a top 20 finish on Saturday night. Read More
Wieser Leads Women's Swim Team to 4th Place Showing at OWUNov. 24th, 2013
Competing in their first major invitational of the 2013-14 season, the Urbana University men's and women's swim teams took fourth place out of five squads at Ohio Wesleyan University over the weekend. The men scored 497 points, finishing just 14 points behind third place Wilmington College. The UU women racked up 325 points. The order of finish on both sides was Ohio Wesleyan, Lake Erie College, Wilmington, Urbana and Defiance College.
Aerika Wieser led all Blue Knights with 3 individual wins. The freshman swept the freestyle sprints to remain undefeated in the events in her career. Wieser won the 50 and 100 free races with new school records in each event. She took down her own mark in each event, swimming the 50 in 25.09 and the 100 in 54.72. Nobody in the field of 29 swimmers in the 50 free came within a half second of Wieser. In the 200 free, Wieser defeated the field by nearly 3 full seconds in a time of 2:00.95. Read More
Women's Swim Team Splits at TechNov. 16th, 2013
The Urbana University swim teams competed in a double dual meet at West Virginia Tech on Saturday night. The Blue Knight men swept a pair of decisions against Tech (W, 75-45) and Milligan College (W, 87-33), while the women split. Milligan's women defeated UU 84-65, but the Blue Knight women took down their hosts 65-43.
Individual winners for Urbana's women included Aerika Wieser in the 50, 100 and 200 freestyles, Jacqueline Rex in the 50 and 100 breast stroke, and Jennifer Schwartz in the 50 and 100 fly. In the Urbana University Aquatics Center on Saturday afternoon, the Blue Knight swim teams split a pair of decisions with the visiting Battlers from Alderson-Broaddus University. The UU men edged the upstart Battlers 100-85, but the first-year program from ABU exacted their revenge in the women's meet, defeating UU 111-77.
A pair of freshmen continued to lead UU's women. Aerika Wieser and Jennifer Schwartz each participated in three wins on Saturday. First, they paired up with teammates Jacqueline Rex and Maggie Carney to take the 200 medley relay. Then, Wieser won the 100 and 200 free, and Schwartz took the 50 free and 100 fly. Read More

The Ohio Wesleyan University men's and women's swim teams remained unbeaten against in-state rival Urbana University. After last year's narrow 5-point win over the UU men, the Battling Bishops defeated their guests 114-95 in the Meek Center on Friday night. OWU's women downed Urbana 125-56.
Urbana's women won 3 of the 12 events. Freshman Aerika Wieser continued her strong rookie season, claiming wins in the 50 and 100 free, as well as serving on the winning 200 yard free relay with teammates Jacqueline Rex, Siara Chupp, and Jennifer Schwartz. UU Splits Home Opener, Breaks 4 School RecordsNov. 2nd, 2013
The Urbana University swim teams suffered their first losses of the season on Saturday afternoon at the UU Aquatics Center, but the Blue Knights also picked up a win in the tri-meet with visiting Lake Erie College and Davis & Elkins College. Lake Erie defeated the UU men 125-110 and the UU women 147-82. Davis & Elkins fell short of the UU men 143-96, while the UU women took down the Senators 122-83.
Individual winners for Urbana on Saturday included Aerika Wieser (50, 100 and 200 free), Alex Espinoza (100 and 200 free), Kim Helander (50 free and 100 fly), and Jennifer Schwartz (100 fly). After last week’s home opening meet was postponed by opponent bus troubles, the Urbana University swim teams re-opened the 2013-14 season on the road on Saturday at Defiance College. The Blue Knight men conquered Defiance 108-67, while the women won matchups with their hosts (91-83) and Ursuline College (88-56).
The Blue Knights won 16 events on the afternoon. Jennifer Schwartz and Aerika Wieser won all of their events in their collegiate debuts. Schwartz broke the UU record in the 100 fly. Wieser (pictured) erased the old mark in the 50 free with a new school record of 25.59 seconds. Read More
Young Appointed Chair of NCAA D2 Swimming & Diving CommitteeSep. 20th, 2013
Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young has been appointed Chair of the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Committee, effective immediately. Young has served on the committee since 2011.
"I am proud to be selected to serve in a leadership role on this committee," said Young. "The NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Nationals are an outstanding event for the very best D2 student-athletes to showcase their talents." The 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships will be hosted by the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from March 12-15, and Young adds, "Urbana University currently has a promising group of swimmers working very hard in the pool to become the first student-athletes to represent the Blue Knights at Nationals." Swim Team to Host September Tune-Up CampAug. 22nd, 2013
Urbana University Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson announced plans to host a September Stroke Tune-Up Camp for swimmers aged 6 and up. The camp will run for the duration of September. There will be 11 total sessions at 1.5 hours each, for a total of 16.5 hours of instruction, training, video work, and more. Cost of the camp is $50 per swimmer. Swim Teams, Helander Named to Scholar All-American TeamsAug. 8th, 2013
The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the 2013 CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams and Individual Scholar All-Americans supported by Nike this week, and both Urbana University's men's and women's squads were presented with Team Scholar All-American Awards.
The Blue Knight men's team posted a cumulative 3.42 GPA this spring, good for 3rd in the country in NCAA Division II. The Blue Knight women had a cumulative GPA of 3.08, which ranked them 51st.
Individually, Urbana saw one of its swimmers named an Honorable Mention Scholar All-American. Sophomore Kim Helander (Tyrese, Sweden) was presented the award after achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher while also achieving a "B" time standard. Lima Shawnee's Aerika Wieser Signs to Swim at UUApr. 22nd, 2013
Lima Shawnee High School standout Aerika Wieser has signed her National Letter of Intent to swim for the Blue Knights next fall. Wieser joins third-year Head Coach Dave Johnson's program on the rise. The Blue Knights finished 11-20 this past season, swimming one of the toughest D-II schedules in the region. Wieser will help Johnson replace departed seniors Breanne Schroeder, Samantha Cowgill, Rachel Kelly and Shelby Snell.
This past February for Lima Shawnee, Wieser advanced to the high school state championships in the 50 free, 100 free and 50 back. Her times in the 50 and 100 free (24.46 and 54.00) would both be UU school records. Read More
UU to Host Competitive Summer Swim CampApr. 1st, 2013
Urbana University Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson announced plans to host the team's annual competitive Summer Training Camp for swimmers aged 7 and up. The camp will run for 11 weeks from Monday, June 10th, 2013 to Thursday, August 22nd, 2013. (No camp from June 17-20 or Thursday, July 4th.) There are four 3-hour sessions per week, for a total of over 100 hours of instruction, training, video work, and more throughout the summer. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

UU to Host 2nd Annual Triathlon on May 19thMar. 15th, 2013
Urbana University is set to host its 2nd annual triathlon on Sunday, May 19th. Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson, in association with STAR Racing & Speedy-Feet, developed the race, which will begin with a 300-yard serpentine swim in the Blue Knights' Aquatics Center pool. Following the swim, competitors will hop on their bikes for a 13-mile ride through the city of Urbana and the surrounding countryside. The race concludes with a 5K run near campus. The triathlon finish line is on the Blue Knights' football field, where friends, family and spectators will be able to watch comfortably from the stadium seats. UU Women Set 7 New Records at ASC ChampionshipsFeb. 16th, 2013
After a three-week build-up, the Urbana University swim teams finished their 2013 season in fine fashion at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships hosted by Union College. The Blue Knight women broke 7 school records and earned their best team finish, 9th of 14, in school history. Senior Breanne Schroeder added two more records to her haul on Saturday. Swimming for the final time in the Royal Blue and White, Schroeder finished in fifth place in the 200 free. She recorded a new personal best time of 2:00.16 in the prelims. UU Swimmers Swept by AsburyJan. 26th, 2013
After Friday night's meet at Union College was cancelled due to weather, the Blue Knight swim teams got back on the road on Saturday to travel to another Appalachian Swimming Conference rival, Asbury University. The home Eagles soared past the Blue Knights, sweeping both the men's and women's results. Asbury's men snuck past UU 136-88, while the Lady Eagles took down the Blue Knights by a score of 185-56. The top performer on the women's side was freshman Jacqueline Rex. Rex narrowly missed wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, losing by .08 of a second in the 100 and .11 of a second in the 200. In the first home tri-meet hosted by the Urbana University swim teams, the Blue Knight men's team came away with a pair of 50-point wins over visiting Hiram College and West Virginia Tech. The Urbana University men's and women's swim teams dropped a pair of decisions to conference foe Malone University in the final Friday night home meet of the season. Malone's men tallied fewer individual race wins than Urbana, but the Pioneers held on for a 98-84 victory. The Malone women coasted to a 102-70 win. Back in early November, the teams split a dual meet at Malone after UU's women edged the Pioneers 113-111 with a win in the final relay. After a 6-week holiday break, the Urbana University women's swim team returned to action Friday afternoon against visiting Ursuline College. Hosting their third dual meet of the season, the Blue Knights defeated their ASC conference foes for the eighth straight time by a score of 104-51. Ursuline opened the meet with a win in the 200 yard medley relay, but the Blue Knights came back with individual wins in each of the next 8 events. Urbana University's swim teams turned in the most impressive performance in program history this weekend at the 19th Annual Miami University Invitational. Thanks to a special invitaion from the Division I Redhawks, Urbana impressed a field filled with D-I powerhouses and D-III national champs. The tougher competition and fast pool spurred Urbana onto 13 new school records. The Blue Knight women smashed 9 school records, including 4 relay records. Swimming for the second time in less than 24 hours, the Urbana University men's and women's swim teams split a pair of decisions at Malone University on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Knight men came up short 146-113, while the women came out on top in a tight one, 113-111. The UU women clinched the victory with a win in the final event of the night, the 200 free relay. Breanne Schroeder, Jacqueline Rex, Constance Letso and Rachel Kelly held off the Pioneers by about 5 seconds with a school record 1:47.19 to capture the crown. The men's results came right down to the wire in Friday night's matchup between Urbana University and Ohio Wesleyan University at the Blue Knight Aquatics Center. The Battling Bishops finished first and second in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay, overcoming a 98-90 deficit to win the meet 105-100. The Bishop women won handily 112-71. Last year at OWU, the Bishops posted wins of 28 points on the men's side and 76 in the women's meet. The Blue Knight men's and women's swim teams picked up a loss and a win over the weekend. Both squads fell at Appalachian Swimming Conference opponent Wheeling Jesuit. The men dropped a 116-71 decision, while the women fell 127-68, but both teams rebounded nicely on Saturday afternoon at Defiance College. The men captured a dominant 88-12 win over their hosts, while the women defeated both Defiance (54-39) and ASC opponent Ursuline (66-23). The men improve to 1-2 on the season, while the women sit at 2-2. The Urbana University swim teams opened the 2012-13 season on the road at Lake Erie College on Saturday night. The Blue Knight women fell to the Storm by a score of 199-55, but a newcomer took down a pair of long-standing school records. On the men's side, Urbana dropped their opener 173.5 to 83.5 despite a pair of strong performances by reigning conference champs. Men's & Women's Swimming Picked to Finish 6th & 8th in ASCOct. 5th, 2012
In an unanimous decision by the league’s coaches, the Wheeling Jesuit men’s and women’s swimming teams were picked to repeat as Appalachian Swimming Conference Champions. On the women’s side, Asbury is picked to finish second, and Notre Dame College is picked to finish third; this order reflects the order of finish from 2012. Coming off a 10th place finish in 2012, the Urbana University women's swim team is predicted to improve to 8th place this winter. Fourteen schools make up the ASC on the women's side. On the men’s side, Asbury is picked to finish second and Mars Hill is picked to rise up in the rankings and finish third. With the loss of 2-time conference champion Paul Miller in the 50 free, the Blue Knights are picked to slide back one spot in 2013. Urbana was 5th of 12 squads last season, but they are slotted in the #6 spot this season.
