UU to Host Competitive Summer Swim Camp
Apr. 1st, 2013Urbana University Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson announced plans to host the team's annual competitive Summer Training Camp for swimmers aged 7 and up. The camp will run for 11 weeks from Monday, June 10th, 2013 to Thursday, August 22nd, 2013. (No camp from June 17-20 or Thursday, July 4th.) There are four 3-hour sessions per week, for a total of over 100 hours of instruction, training, video work, and more throughout the summer. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday's sessions run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

UU to Host 2nd Annual Triathlon on May 19th
Mar. 15th, 2013Urbana University is set to host its 2nd annual triathlon on Sunday, May 19th. Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson, in association with STAR Racing & Speedy-Feet, developed the race, which will begin with a 300-yard serpentine swim in the Blue Knights' Aquatics Center pool. Following the swim, competitors will hop on their bikes for a 13-mile ride through the city of Urbana and the surrounding countryside. The race concludes with a 5K run near campus. The triathlon finish line is on the Blue Knights' football field, where friends, family and spectators will be able to watch comfortably from the stadium seats. Helander's Title in 100 Fly Highlights Huge Weekend for UU at ASC Championships
Feb. 16th, 2013After a three-week build-up, the Urbana University swim teams finished their 2013 season in fine fashion at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships hosted by Union College. The Blue Knight women broke 7 school records and earned their best team finish, 9th of 14, in school history. Urbana’s men smashed an incredible 8 school records, including 4 relay records, and picked up their third straight top 6 team performance. Sophomore Kim Helander highlighted the men's Saturday night with the team's only 2013 title in the 100 fly. The Swede swam the race of his career in his specialty, touching in at 49.01 to break his own school and ASC record of 49.10 in the event. For the second year in a row, Helander has a strong NCAA Division II B-cut qualifying time in the 100 fly. Read More

Feb. 15th, 2013he Urbana University swim teams are competing at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships this weekend. The Blue Knight men's 400 medley relay team of Matt Stover, John Whitaker, Kim Helander and Alex Espinoza already set a school record and earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish on Thursday night. Helander Earns ASC Swimmer of the Week
Jan. 30th, 2013Sophomore Kim Helander led the Blue Knights in a dual meet against conference foe Asbury University. In his individual events, Kim touched second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 22.34 and first in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 50.25. Helander also contributed to winning two relays by splitting 22.86 on the 200 Medley Relay (1:40.15) and 48.33 on the 400 Freestyle Relay (48.33). The ASC Swimmer of the Week award is the second of his career. Helander first came in November of his freshman season. He joins teammate Alex Espinoza as Urbana's weekly award winners this season. UU Swimmers Swept by Asbury
Jan. 26th, 2013After Friday night's meet at Union College was cancelled due to weather, the Blue Knight swim teams got back on the road on Saturday to travel to another Appalachian Swimming Conference rival, Asbury University. The home Eagles soared past the Blue Knights, sweeping both the men's and women's results. Asbury's men snuck past UU 136-88, while the Lady Eagles took down the Blue Knights by a score of 185-56. Friday Night Swim Meet at Union Cancelled
Jan. 25th, 2013Tonight's swim meet at Union College between the Blue Knights and Bulldogs has been cancelled due to the snowstorm that blanketed the area on Friday. The meet will not be made up. At this time, the Blue Knights are still planning on making the trip to Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky for Saturday's 1:00 p.m. meet. Check back later for any updates. Read More
Helander's 4 Wins Help UU past Tech & Hiram
Jan. 19th, 2013In the first home tri-meet hosted by the Urbana University swim teams, the Blue Knight men's team came away with a pair of 50-point wins over visiting Hiram College and West Virginia Tech. The UU women defeated Tech 83-20, but fell to a full squad from Hiram 71-45. Urbana's men opened the afternoon with wins in their first 9 events. Pioneers Pull Away from Blue Knights
Jan. 18th, 2013The Urbana University men's and women's swim teams dropped a pair of decisions to conference foe Malone University in the final Friday night home meet of the season. Malone's men tallied fewer individual race wins than Urbana, but the Pioneers held on for a 98-84 victory. The Malone women coasted to a 102-70 win. Back in early November, the teams split a dual meet at Malone after UU's women edged the Pioneers 113-111 with a win in the final relay. Ashland Sweeps UU Swimmers
Jan. 14th, 2013The Ashland University swim team swept a pair of decisions at home against Urbana University on Saturday afternoon. The Ashland men brought home a 165-54 win over UU, and the women coasted to a 166-66 victory over the Blue Knights. Alex Espinoza had a couple of near wins in the men's 100 and 200-yard freestyle races. He took second in each contest, missing wins by about 1.5 seconds combined in the 2 events. Read More
UU to Host Holiday Swim Camp
Dec. 6th, 2012Urbana University Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson announced plans to host a Holiday Break Training Camp for swimmers aged 7-15. The camp will run for 2 hours on 5 dates designed to take place over the holiday break. The dates include December 20th, 21st, 26th, 27th and 28th. Camps include instruction from Coach Johnson's staff, pool and dry land training, video work, and more. Cost of the camp is $50 per swimmer. Read More
Espinoza Earns 2nd ASC Award
Dec. 5th, 2012Today, Urbana University sophomore Alex Espinoza (Liberty Township, Ohio/Lakota East HS) was named the male Swimmer of the Week by the Appalachian Swimming Conference for the second time this season. Swimmers Enjoy Fastest Weekend in Program History
Dec. 1st, 2012Urbana University's swim teams turned in the most impressive performance in program history this weekend at the 19th Annual Miami University Invitational. Thanks to a special invitaion from the Division I Redhawks, Urbana impressed a field filled with D-I powerhouses and D-III national champs. The tougher competition and fast pool spurred Urbana onto 13 new school records. Sophomore Kim Helander qualified for the "A" Final in his specialty, the 100 fly. Helander was the only Blue Knight to qualify for an "A" final, finishing in 8th place overall in a highly-competitive field that contained nothing but NCAA D-III championship qualifiers. Read More
Blue Knight Swim Teams Enjoy Record Weekend
Nov. 18th, 2012The Urbana University swim teams experienced a record-setting weekend at the Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. In all, 8 Urbana records fell as the Blue Knight men finished 4th and the women took 5th in a field of 6 teams. The Blue Knight men scored 593 points, finishing just 13 points behind 4th place Mount Union, while the women put up 306 points on the weekend. Sophomore Kim Helander didn't set any school records on the men's side this weekend, but he did capture the Blue Knights' lone individual victory in his specialty, the 100 fly. Men's Swim Team Edged at Malone
Nov. 10th, 2012Swimming for the second time in less than 24 hours, the Urbana University men's and women's swim teams split a pair of decisions at Malone University on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Knight men came up short 146-113, while the women came out on top in a tight one, 113-111. The Blue Knight men were led by individual winners Matt Stover in the 100 back (55.65), 200 back (2:00.92), and 200 IM (2:03.01), and Kim Helander in the 50 free (21.95) and 100 fly (51.09). Final Relay Decides Bishops-UU Swim Meet
Nov. 9th, 2012The men's results came right down to the wire in Friday night's matchup between Urbana University and Ohio Wesleyan University at the Blue Knight Aquatics Center. The Battling Bishops finished first and second in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay, overcoming a 98-90 deficit to win the meet 105-100. The Bishop women won handily 112-71. Last year at OWU, the Bishops posted wins of 28 points on the men's side and 76 in the women's meet. Urbana remained outnumbered more than 2-to-1, but they turned in a terrific effort to close the gap. Kim Helander was the Blue Knights' leading scorer. Read More
Blue Knights Bring Down Bison in Home Opener
Nov. 2nd, 2012In a Friday night home opener at the Blue Knight Aquatics Center, the Urbana University men's and women's swim teams split a pair of decisions with visiting Bethany College. The Urbana men's team picked up their second win in a row with a comfortable 112-34 victory over the Bison, but the women dropped a tight 95-93 decision. Swim Team Splits Weekend at WJU, DC
Oct. 29th, 2012The Blue Knight men's and women's swim teams picked up a loss and a win over the weekend. Both squads fell at Appalachian Swimming Conference opponent Wheeling Jesuit. The men dropped a 116-71 decision, while the women fell 127-68, but both teams rebounded nicely on Saturday afternoon at Defiance College. The men captured a dominant 88-12 win over their hosts, while the women defeated both Defiance (54-39) and ASC opponent Ursuline (66-23). The men improve to 1-2 on the season, while the women sit at 2-2. Individually, just one Blue Knight swam to first place finishes at Wheeling Jesuit. UU Swimming Opens Season at Lake Erie
Oct. 20th, 2012The Urbana University swim teams opened the 2012-13 season on the road at Lake Erie College on Saturday night. The Blue Knight women fell to the Storm by a score of 199-55, but a newcomer took down a pair of long-standing school records. On the men's side, Urbana dropped their opener 173.5 to 83.5 despite a pair of strong performances by reigning conference champs. Sophomore Kim Helander turned in an impressive time in his opening swim in the 100 fly. Helander had the nation's 15th fastest time in the event a season ago (49.10), and he nearly matched that at Lake Erie. His time of 50.78 earned the Blue Knights 9 points and their only individual win of the night. Men's & Women's Swimming Picked to Finish 6th & 8th in ASC
Oct. 5th, 2012In an unanimous decision by the league’s coaches, the Wheeling Jesuit men’s and women’s swimming teams were picked to repeat as Appalachian Swimming Conference Champions. On the women’s side, Asbury is picked to finish second, and Notre Dame College is picked to finish third; this order reflects the order of finish from 2012. Coming off a 10th place finish in 2012, the Urbana University women's swim team is predicted to improve to 8th place this winter. Fourteen schools make up the ASC on the women's side. On the men’s side, Asbury is picked to finish second and Mars Hill is picked to rise up in the rankings and finish third. With the loss of 2-time conference champion Paul Miller in the 50 free, the Blue Knights are picked to slide back one spot in 2013. Urbana was 5th of 12 squads last season, but they are slotted in the #6 spot this season. UU Swimming to Host September Stroke Tune-Up Camp
Aug. 9th, 2012Urbana University Head Swim Coach Dave Johnson announced plans to host a September Stroke Tune-Up Camp for swimmers aged 7 and up. The camp will run for the duration of September. There will be 11 total sessions at 1.5 hours each, for a total of 16.5 hours of instruction, training, video work, and more. Cost of the camp is $45 per swimmer. Helander Competes at UGA Last Chance Meet (UPDATE)

Feb. 18th, 2012The Urbana University swim teams put the finishing touches on their record-breaking seasons at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships this weekend.
