Softball's G-MAC Run Ends on Day 2May. 3th, 2013
The Urbana University softball team’s hopes of back-to-back season-ending championships came to an end on Friday morning in Nashville. The second-seeded Blue Knights lost a semi-final elimination game to the third-seeded Yellow Jackets from Cedarville University by a score of 5-2.
Ashley Skinner and senior Brooke Shultz were the only Blue Knights with 2 hits in the loss. Shultz ended her career in fine fashion, slapping 18 hits over her final 7 games. She finished the year second in batting average at .383, behind Skinner’s mark of .412. Both players were named to the G-MAC's All-Conference Team on Thursday. Read More
Softball Bounces Back on 1st Day of G-MAC TournamentMay. 2nd, 2013
The second-seeded Urbana University softball team didn't open the 2013 G-MAC Tournament the way they would have liked, but the Blue Knights bounced back in their second game to avoid an early elimination on Thursday afternoon. Urbana dropped the opening game of the tournament by a score of 9-6 to the third-seeded Yellow Jackets from Cedarville University. Facing elimination in the loser's bracket, Urbana rebounded with an 8-3 win over the fourth-seeded Arrows from Ursuline College.
Senior 2B Brooke Shultz had 6 hits on the day, including a perfect 4 for 4 performance in the 8-3 win over Ursuline. She also stole her 43rd career base, leaving her 1 shy of the school's all-time record. Read More
Kolmerten Named to Capital One Academic All-District First TeamMay. 2nd, 2013
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Urbana University junior pitcher Haley Kolmerten (West Lafayette, Ohio/Ridgewood HS) became the first female student-athlete to be honored during the Blue Knights’ NCAA Division II era. First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Earlier today, Kolmerten was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Year, and just 5 days ago, Kolmerten also brought home the Athletic Department’s prestigious Community Service Award, pulling off an impressive trifecta during her third year as a Blue Knight. Read More

Urbana University junior Haley Kolmerten (West Lafayette, Ohio/Ridgewood HS) was named the conference’s Pitcher of the Year after turning in one of the most dominant seasons by a Blue Knight in program history. Softball Clinches 2-Seed after Split with CedarvilleApr. 25th, 2013
Needing just one win in their final regular season doubleheader to clinch the #2 seed in next week's G-MAC Tournament, the Urbana University softball had to sweat it out until the very last moment against visiting Cedarville University on Thursday night. The Blue Knights dropped a heartbreaker 9-8 in 11 innings in Game 1 before bouncing back with a late come-from-behind 5-4 victory in the night cap.
The win clinched the #2 seed for Urbana. It also clinched the season series against the Yellow Jackets, who Urbana will face in the opening game of the G-MAC Tournament next Thursday at top-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University. The Blue Knights also secured the program's first winning season in over a decade. Urbana's last softball season with a final record above .500 came in 2001 (25-13 under Head Coach Wendy Nance). The Urbana University softball doubleheader at Ursuline College on Wednesday afternoon has been rained out. Wednesday's games were just added to the schedule on Monday as an attempt to make-up a doubleheader lost to rain 10 days prior. The games are the 15th and 16th games lost to weather in 2013. An additional 6 games were postponed to a later date. The Blue Knights home finale is slated for Thursday at 3:30 p.m. against Cedarville University. The teams are battling for the #2 and #3 seeds in next week's G-MAC tournament. Urbana is in the driver's seat at 4-4 in conference play. Cedarville (4-6) can overtake Urbana with a sweep. Softball Continues to Slump at AshlandApr. 23th, 2013
The Blue Knight softball team lost for the 13th time in their last 16 games on Tuesday night, dropping a road doubleheader at Ashland University. Urbana fell 11-3 in a 5-inning Game 1 loss, and Ashland walked away with a 3-1 victory in the night cap.
After opening the season with 15 wins in the first 17 contests, the Blue Knights currently sit at 18-15 after Tuesday's losses. Ashland improved to 22-15 with the sweep.

The Blue Knight softball team will travel to conference foe Ursuline College on Wednesday to play a make-up doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. The teams were originally scheduled to play the DH on Saturday, April 13th, but wet field conditions caused the game to be postponed. Urbana swept the Arrows 6-1 and 2-1 in 8 innings at Urbana back on March 23rd. The Blue Knights currently control their own destiny for the #2 seed in May's G-MAC post-season tournament. Tuesday's home softball doubleheader against the University of Findlay has been canceled. Findlay needed the date for conference make-up games. At this time, there are no plans to make up the lost doubleheader. This spring season has been a difficult one for playing games as scheduled. The Blue Knights have already lost 12 games due to weather or weather make-up dates. Another 6 games have been postponed to later dates due to weather. Urbana is currently 18-11 through 29 games. Skinner's Home Runs Help UU Salvage Split at NDCApr. 14th, 2013
Urbana University softball junior Ashley Skinner homered twice on Sunday afternoon at Notre Dame College. Her second blast broke a scoreless tie in the ninth inning of Game 2, propelling the Blue Knights to a 2-0 win. The victory helped Urbana return home with a split with their future conference foes after losing a lead and dropping the first game 7-5.
Game 1 was going Urbana's way until the Falcons' offense exploded in a 4-run fifth inning. The scoring outburst turned a 4-3 deficit into a 7-4 lead. Urbana's Ashley Skinner drove in her third run of the game in the top of the sixth and the Blue Knights loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but the home team held off the late charge to take the first matchup 7-5. Last April, the St. Joseph's College softball team won a pair of 1-run decisions against Urbana University on their way to an NCAA Division II College World Series appearance. In the teams' next meeting on Wednesday afternoon at Blue Knight Field, the Pumas pulled off another 1-0 nailbiter before completing the sweep with a 9-0 rout in the night cap. Urbana has dropped 8 of their last 10 and fall to 17-10 overall after Wednesday's losses.
Neither team could push across a run in Game 1. Starting pitchers Haley Kolmerten and Sarah Franklin mowed through both lineups with ease until the sixth inning. In a battle between undefeated first place teams, the visiting Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene University gained a huge advantage in the G-MAC race by sweeping a Saturday doubleheader at Urbana University. The Trojans scored early and often in wins of 8-3 and 11-0.

The Blue Knight softball team played 19 games over the season's first month, and it wasn't until the 19th game until Urbana experienced its first set of back-to-back losses. The run of Blue Knight bad luck continued on Thursday afternoon at the University of Findlay. Just 48 hours after dropping both ends of a home doubleheader to regional rival Lewis University, Urbana lost two more on the road to the Oilers from UF. The Oilers edged Urbana by a single run in both games of the doubleheader, sweeping the first of two twinbills between these teams 1-0 and 6-5.

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Haley Kolmerten of Urbana University and Breanna Zeis of Trevecca Nazarene University have once again been named G-MAC Softball Pitching and Offensive Athletes of the Week respectively. The pair were both named Athlete of the Week last week as well.
In her win over Wayne State this week, Kolmerten scattered five hits and allowed two runs, which tied a season-high for runs allowed for the Blue Knights' top pitcher. She continues to lead the conference with a 1.47 earned run average. Read More

After losing another week of contests due to last week's spring snowstorm, the Urbana University softball team added a road doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Wayne State University. The Blue Knights will return home for Easter weekend with a win and a loss for their troubles. Urbana took the first game 3-2 on the strength of an Ashley Skinner 2-run blast but dropped the night cap 7-1 to the Warriors. The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Haley Kolmerten of Urbana University and Breanna Zeis of Trevecca Nazarene University have been named G-MAC Softball Pitching and Offensive Athletes of the Week, respectively.
Kolmerten improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season with back-to-back complete game victories on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. On Friday, she carried a perfect game into the fifth inning against West Liberty University. She finished with 10 strikeouts, no walks and she scattered two hits in Urbana’s 2-1 victory. Less than 24 hours later, Kolmerten tossed a three-hitter and struck out 12 in Urbana's G-MAC debut, a 6-1 win over Ursuline. Less than 24 hours after the Urbana University softball team saw their school record 16-game winning streak snapped, the Blue Knights began a new winning streak, sweeping conference foe Ursuline College on Saturday afternoon. Urbana downed the Arrows 6-1 and walked off with a 2-1 extra innings win in the night cap to improve to 12-1 overall and 2-0 in the G-MAC.
In Game 1, the Blue Knights broke through with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Senior shortstop Heather Hakola clubbed her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, over the left field fence to start the scoring.

Toppers Stop Softball's Winning Streak at 16Mar. 22nd, 2013
Urbana University extended the longest winning streak in the country in NCAA Division II softball on Friday afternoon, but then the Blue Knights saw that streak snapped in the night cap by the visiting Hilltoppers from West Liberty University. A 2-1 walk-off win in the home opener stretched Urbana's school-record winning streak to 16 games before the Toppers toppled the streak with a 9-1 victory in Game 2.

The Blue Knight softball team added a new home doubleheader to the schedule for this Friday (March 22nd) against West Liberty University. First pitch is set for 3:00 p.m. The Hilltoppers (6-12) are a future conference foe of Urbana. The two teams will join the newly formed Mountain East Conference next fall, and they'll get a preview of each others' squads on Friday on the campus of Urbana.

For the third time in four days, inclement weather has washed out a doubleheader for the Urbana University softball team. Rain, snow, ice and cold canceled Saturday's home opener vs. nationally ranked Grand Valley State University, Sunday's away game at the University of Rio Grande and now Tuesday's home opener against the University of Findlay. The Blue Knights and Oilers are working on a make-up date, but as of now, they have not decided upon that new date.

A return to the state of Ohio couldn't cool off the red-hot Urbana University softball team on Friday night. The Blue Knights, who opened the season with seven straight wins in Myrtle Beach, swept regional rival Malone University 7-3 and 8-0 to improve to 9-0 this season. The Urbana University softball team put the finishing touches on an undefeated Spring Break Trip with another shutout victory on Friday morning. The Blue Knights blanked the Eagles from Robert Morris University-Springfield 8-0 in six innings to complete the perfect trip down south to the National Collegiate Softball Invitational.

The Urbana University softball team opened 2013 exactly the way they ended the 2012 season, on a six-game winning streak. After posting two more wins on Wednesday, the Blue Knights are 6-0 on Spring Break in Myrtle Beach. The 6-0 start is the best in program history, and dating back to last May when the team captured the D-II Ohio Independent Championship, the team has posted 12 straight wins to tie the school record set in 2001. The Urbana University softball team debuted an overpowering offense and dominant pitching staff in the team's season openers on Monday. Playing in the National Collegiate Softball Invitational in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Urbana outscored a pair of opponents 23-0 in just 10 innings of action on the opening day of the Invitational.
Urbana opened its 2013 season with a 14-0 victory in 5 innings over D-III Mount Aloysius College. Pitchers Lauren Anderson and Cortney Moore combined for the complete game shutout. Anderson left after just 2 innings of work as a precaution after being struck on the hand by a ball. A doubleheader sweep on the regular season's final day helped Urbana earn the 3-seed entering this week's D-II Ohio Independents' Championship, and on Friday afternoon, the Blue Knights captured the OIC crown after a dominant 4-0 run through the double-elimination tournament. This week, Urbana University Head Softball Coach Danielle Lowe announced the signing of five new recruits, in addition to one who signed early in November, to the Blue Knight softball program. The recruiting class, which will enroll in the fall, has a decidedly local flavor as five of the six signees currently reside within about 30 miles of campus.
