Blue Knights Stay Hot with 3-1 Win at OCU

OAKLAND CITY, Indiana (October 6, 2012) – On a chilly afternoon in southern Indiana, the Urbana University women's soccer team stayed hot at Oakland City University.  Trailing 1-0 late, the Blue Knights mounted a late charge, scoring 3 goals over the final 27 minutes to win on the road 3-1.  The victory is Urbana's 6th in the past 7 games.  The Blue Knights are above .500 for the first time this season at 6-5-0 after an 0-4-0 start.  The Mighty Oaks fall to .500 at 4-4-3 with the loss.

Freshman Sierra Higginbotham got the Blue Knights on the board in the 73rd minute with her first career goal.  Higginbotham scored the equalizer from about 20 yards out, helping shift the momentum to the visitors.

Five minutes later, senior Abby Pearson scored the game-winner from 20 yards out on a free kick.  The goal was Pearson's team-leading 5th of the season.  Freshman Kayla Bodenmiller tacked on an insurance goal six minutes later, and Urbana held on for the 3-1 win.  Bodenmiller's goal was the first of her career as well.

Urbana out-shot the Mighty Oaks 15-3 on the day.  OCU scored their only goal in the 23rd minute.

The Blue Knights return home to host the Cardinals from Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The non-conference matchup is a preview of future conference meetings between the two schools as both will be members of the new Mountain East Conference next fall. [Box Score]
