Women's Soccer Clips Findlay for First Win
FINDLAY, Ohio (September 12, 2012) - It wasn't the offensive outburst the Urbana University women's soccer team would have liked to experience, but it was enough to win on Wednesday night at the University of Findlay. Freshman McKensey Cross ended Urbana's 323-minute scoreless streak, and the Blue Knight defense made the 1-0 lead stand for Urbana's first victory of the 2012 season.
Cross came off the bench late in the first half to spark the offense. On an assist from fellow freshman Alyx Brown, Cross fired the game-winner into the top left corner of the net from about 30 yards out. Urbana's offense did not fire another shot on goal for the remainder of the game, but thanks to a stout defense, the Blue Knights didn't need to take any more shots.
Senior goalkeeper Meghan Taucher continued her dominance in Findlay with 3 saves in the shutout. The last time Taucher and the Blue Knights played in Findlay, Taucher set the school record for saves with 20 in a 0-0 tie.
With the win, Urbana improves to 1-4-0 on the year. The Blue Knights also snapped a 14-game road losing streak that dated back to October 19, 2010. Urbana will attempt to start their first road winning streak since September of 2008 in their next game on Wednesday at Ohio Valley University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. [Box Score]
