Findlay Stuns UU With Late Goals
FINDLAY, Ohio (September 7, 2012) - For 85 minutes, the Urbana University men's soccer team played almost flawlessly at the University of Findlay. Junior Carl Peers put the Blue Knights ahead 1-0 in the 34th minute on an assist from teammate Tyler Wason. Urbana's offense continued to churn out better looks on goal, and the defense stonewalled every Oiler opportunity. With less than 5 minutes to go, however, the Oilers finally broke through on a Damani Storms unassisted goal.
The shellshocked Blue Knights tried to regroup in overtime. The offense had 3 shots to end it in overtime, while the defense held Findlay without a single shot over the first 9 and a half minutes. Then, with just 23 seconds left in the first OT, Findlay's Ryan Poyle fed Mark Sleasman who fired the one and only Oiler shot of the extra frame. The ball found the back of the net and sent the home team into a celebrating frenzy.
The heartbreaking 2-1 loss dropped Urbana to 2-2-0 on the year, while the Oilers stay undefeated at 2-0-0. Urbana returns home to host another GLIAC opponent on Tuesday night. The Lake Erie College Storm come to Urbana for a 4:00 p.m. game.
