Roberts Adds 2 More International Recruits
URBANA, Ohio (June 27, 2012) - Urbana University Head Men's Soccer Coach Nick Roberts added two more overseas recruits to his squad for the 2012 season. England's Aaron Burt and Scotland's Mike McFarlane add more international flair to a recruiting class that already boasts 8 newcomers, including English transfer Carl Peers.
Aaron Burt hails from Norfolk, England. He is a 6-foot defender with multiple years of experience playing in England. He has represented the Norfolk School of Boys for 3 consecutive years and played for club teams Mundford Youth and Lynn Town U18’s. In the past 2 years, he has played for the Dereham Town Football Club in the Eastern Counties Premier League.
“We know Aaron is a competent and steady defender who will be able to have a very solid playing career over the next 4 years as a student-athlete here at Urbana University," said Roberts. "We are please to welcome him here to Urbana, and we are really looking forward to the next 4 years of his career.”
Aaron is the son of Malcolm and Suzanne Burt, and he has two siblings, Murray and Morgan.
Scot Michael McFarlane has a lifetime of soccer experience. Early in his playing career, he had trials at Hibernian FC, eventually moving to Tynecastle FC where he played for 4 successful seasons. During this time, his team participated in The Gothia Cup (World Youth Championships) in Sweden on 3 occasions. He recently played for Leith Athletic FC where he stayed for 1 season before returning back to his home team of Haddington Athletic FC.
According to Coach Roberts, "Mike gives us versatility as he can play well in a number of positions, including on the outside midfield, and he is also a very good defender. We are excited to see him join our program here at Urbana University."
Burt, McFarlane and the rest of the Blue Knights begin their 2012 season on Thursday, August 30th at 4:00 p.m. at home against the Knights from Bellarmine University.
