UU Lacrosse Signs 3
URBANA, Ohio (May 21, 2012) - Urbana University Head Lacrosse Coach Aimee LeClair announced the signing of 3 new recruits this week. Blue Knights joining the program this fall include Shannon Meyer (Pickerington, OH), Chanelle Bondurant (Pickerington, OH), and Paige Waqa (pictured left; Bethesda, MD).
"The new girls' heaviest impact will be felt on the offensive side, providing support to our veteran defense," announced Coach LeClair. "Last season, we lacked an offensive threat as a whole, and these girls will strengthen both ends of the field. I am confident that these girls will strengthen the program, and entering our third year of competition, it has been critical to recruit solid student-athletes like this group of girls."
Meyer and Bondurant were teammates together on the Pickerington Central High School team in nearby Pickerington, Ohio. Behind Meyer and Bondurant in the midfield and attack, the Tigers finished 8-8 this season.
“Shannon looks to set up fellow teammates very well, and she has a strong sense driving to goal," according to Coach LeClair. "Chanelle is fast and aggressive in transition.”
Waqa is a goaltender from Walter Johnson High School in Bethesda, Maryland. Standing 5'8", Waqa faired well in her first season tending goal for the 12-4 Wildcats. She made 177 saves and held opponents to 8 goals per contest.
“Paige makes critical adjustments to shooters, and she has great clearing ability to find the outlet pass," according to Coach LeClair. She is pictured below (first row center) amongst friends and family on her signing day.

Under first-year Head Coach Aimee LeClair, the Blue Knights finished 2-13 in the program's second season of NCAA D-II competition. The young team featured no seniors and hopes to return to full-strength next spring behind All-Independent award winners Alyssa Aschroft (First Team Defender) and Hannah Walters (All-Freshman Team Midfielder).
