Dragons Drop Blue Knights in Finale
TIFFIN, Ohio (April 27, 2012) - The Urbana University women's lacrosse team showed great improvement in its second season of NCAA Division II competition, but the improved play wasn't enough against nearby rival Tiffin University on Friday night. After suffering a 26-2 loss to the Dragons last spring, the Blue Knights kept it closer but still fell 20-8 on the road in the season finale.
Urbana outscored Tiffin 5-4 in the second half, but the Dragons secured victory by scoring 16 of the game's first 19 goals. Blue Knight midfielder Emily Boerger ended her junior season with a bang in the loss. Boerger scored 7 of Urbana's 8 goals, setting a new school record in the process. Her 44 goals bested Brittany Mazzu's mark of 40 in the team's inaugual season. Boerger also led the team in ground balls. Her twin sister Nora Boerger scored the Blue Knights' only other goal. Freshman goalkeeper Emily Brumley tallied 7 saves, adding to her own school record, and freshman Hannah Walters led the squad with 6 draw controls.
Urbana ends its second season of women's lacrosse with a 2-13 mark for the second consecutive season.
