Blue Knights Wallop Warriors for 2nd Win

WAYNESBURG, Pennsylvania (April 21, 2012) - On a cold and wet Saturday afternoon on the road, the Urbana University women's lacrosse team earned the second win of the program's second season, racing by the Warriors from Waynesburg University 13-7.  The Warriors were coming off a big one-goal victory over West Virginia Wesleyan, but they ran into a Blue Knight squad desperate to end a 5-game losing streak.

Urbana's Emily Boerger put Urbana on top 1-0 early.  The Warriors briefly tied the game at a goal apiece, but the first half ended with a flurry of Blue Knight goals.  Four straight unanswered Urbana goals gave the visitors a 5-1 halftime advantage.  Waynesburg wouldn't score again until 12 minutes had eclipsed in the second half.  By then, Urbana had pushed its lead to 8-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Emily Brumley was superb in net, stopping 11 Warrior shots.  Emily Boerger led the Blue Knights with 6 goals and an assist.  Taylor Anderson, Alyssa Ashcroft and Hannah Walters each added 2 goals in the win.  Nora Boerger also had a goal and tallied team highs in assists (2), ground balls (7), draw controls (3) and caused turnovers (3).

Urbana ends its second season of women's lacrosse on the road on Friday night.  The Blue Knights will try for win #3 at area rival Tiffin University.  Game time begins at 7:00 p.m. [Box Score]
