Emily Boerger Earns All-Conference Honors
May. 6th, 2013Urbana University women’s lacrosse player Emily Boerger (Milford Center, OH/Fairbanks HS) earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors following a record-breaking senior season. Boerger was Urbana’s lone representative on the GLIAC All-Conference teams. The Blue Knights (3-11) finished seventh in the new nine-team women’s lacrosse league.
Boerger set single season school records for points (52), goals (50), goals per game (3.85), shots per game (7.85) and shot percentage (.490). In a win at Walsh University earlier this season, Boerger tied single game school records for goals (8) and points (9). She finished 7th in the country in NCAA Division II in goals per game. The three-year starting attacker leaves Urbana as the all-time leader in points (121), goals (114), shots (276) and game-winning goals (3). Read More
Emily Boerger Notches Record 50th Goal of the Season in Senior Day Loss
Apr. 28th, 2013 The GLIAC frontrunners from Grand Valley State University ruined a strong effort from the Blue Knight lacrosse team on Senior Day on Sunday afternoon. The visiting Lakers finished their conference slate undefeated, locking up the top seed in next week's GLIAC post-season tournament with a 22-10 victory.
The game was much closer than the final score indicated. Urbana won the early battle in both halves, but the deeper, fresher Lakers were able to pull away late. Despite the loss, Urbana ends its season on a high note. The played toe-to-toe with the best team in the conference, sending their three seniors out in fine fashion. Emily Boerger scored a game-high 7 goals on just 8 shots. Her big day allowed her to become the first Blue Knight in program history to score 50 goals in a single season. She ends her career as the all-time scoring leader at Urbana with 114 career goals. Read More
Lacrosse Loses Battle with Falcons
Apr. 26th, 2013The Urbana University lacrosse team came out of the gates on fire on Friday night, but the Blue Knights couldn't keep up with the deeper Falcons from Notre Dame College. The score was 6-5 at the break, but constant substitutions from the visitors helped the Falcons stay fresh while Urbana was playing without a bench. NDC outscored Urbana 13-3 in the second half, locking down a spot in the post-season GLIAC tournament. Urbana was eliminated from the GLIAC tournament with the 19-8 loss.
The top highlight of the game came from the Blue Knights. On a pinpoint assist from Hannah Walters, a streaking Alyssa Ashcroft (pictured) caught the pass and fired a shot in a blink of an eye, scoring in the top left corner of the net. Boerger Bags Record 8 Goals in Win at Walsh
Apr. 21st, 2013The Urbana University women's lacrosse team notched its third win of the season on Sunday afternoon, an 16-5 romp over the Cavaliers from Walsh University. The victory sets a new single-season high for the Blue Knights, who are in their third season of NCAA Division II competition. Walsh, a new D-II program, falls to 2-5 on the year.
Senior Emily Boerger tied an Urbana record with 8 goals in the victory. She also had an assist, matching Brittany Mazzu's mark of 9 points in a single game. Her 4 ground balls were also a team-high, and her 8 goals give her 103 in her career. She is the first Blue Knight to reach triple-digits in goals scored. Read More
Dragons Fend Off Blue Knights 17-10
Apr. 19th, 2013The Blue Knight women's lacrosse team dropped their first home game of the season on Friday night, falling to the visiting Dragons from Tiffin University. Urbana outscored their opponents in the second half, but Tiffin's early scoring frenzy was enough to hold off the Blue Knights by a score of 17-10.
Urbana's Chanelle Bondurant scored her 10th goal of the season on a nifty assist from Ashley Gerken. Bondurant's goal helped the home team set the tone for the second period. Urbana outscored the Dragons 6-5 over the final 30 minutes, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 8-point deficit. Read More
Lacrosse's Late Comeback Falls Short at Findlay
Apr. 14th, 2013The Blue Knight women's lacrosse team made a late charge on Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough in Urbana's 22-14 defeat at the University of Findlay.
Urbana outscored the Oilers 10-8 in the second half, including a 4-0 Boerger twin scoring run late. Down 20-9 with a little over 11 minutes to go, sisters Nora (pictured) and Emily alternated goals over the next three minutes to pull the visitors within 20-12, but the teams only netted a pair of goals each over the final 7 minutes as the Oilers held on to victory. Storm Surge Too Much for Lacrosse
Apr. 12th, 2013Coming off the biggest win in program history, the Blue Knight lacrosse team was knocked back down on the road on Friday night. Conference power Lake Erie College surged past Urbana 19-2 to improve to 8-3 and 2-1 in the GLIAC. Urbana slips to 2-7 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
Freshman Chanelle Bondurant scored Urbana's second half goal. She also led the Blue Knights with 5 ground balls and 2 draw controls. Read More
Lacrosse Routs A-B 17-2 in Home Opener
Apr. 7th, 2013On a beautiful spring afternoon at Urbana University Stadium, the Blue Knight women's lacrosse team enjoyed the biggest win in the program's 3-year history. Urbana beat up the Battlers from Alderson-Broaddus College 17-2 in the team's home opener.
Urbana improves to 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in GLIAC play. The Battlers (0-8, 0-2 GLIAC) remain winless in their inaugural season of women's lacrosse.
Urbana seniors Emily (pictured) and Nora Boerger opened the game with a flurry of goals. The twins combined for 8 goals, 5 from Emily and 3 from Nora, in the first half as the home team grabbed a 12-1 lead at the break. Read More
Last-Second Goal Sends Lacrosse to 9-8 Loss
Apr. 3th, 2013For the second time this season, the Urbana University women's lacrosse team dropped a game on the road by a single goal. At Wheeling Jesuit University on Wednesday afternoon, the Blue Knights fell 9-8 on a Cardinal goal with 22 seconds remaining. The heartbreaking loss was eerily similar to another 9-8 loss suffered at Siena Heights University 3 weeks prior. The game-winning goal came with 1:22 left on the clock in that Blue Knight defeat.
With a little over 8 minutes remaining, Urbana senior Alyssa Ashcroft tied the game at 8 goals apiece on an assist from Ashley Gerken. That set the stage for an epic struggle down the stretch for the game-winner. Read More
Lacrosse Bags 1st Win at WVWC
Mar. 26th, 2013The Blue Knight women's lacrosse team came from behind in the second half to bag their first victory of the season on Tuesday night. Urbana overcame a 4-3 halftime deficit on the road in the freezing cold to beat the Bobcats from West Virginia Wesleyan College by a final score of 8-5. Urbana opened the 2013 season with 5 straight road losses before Tuesday night's comeback win in West Virginia. Rams Continue Urbana's Road Woes
Mar. 19th, 2013An experienced Shepherd University women's lacrosse squad sent Urbana University to its fifth straight road loss to open the 2013 season on Tuesday afternoon. Urbana freshman Chanelle Bondurant opened the scoring with a goal in the game's first minute, but the Rams answered with 8 straight goals by 7 different players on their way to a 24-6 victory over the visiting Blue Knights. Lacrosse's Comeback Bid Erased by Late Goal at SHU
Mar. 12th, 2013Playing under the lights at Siena Heights University, the Blue Knight lacrosse team made a valiant comeback on Tuesday night. Unfortunately for Urbana, the Saints erased the impressive comeback with a game-winning goal with about a minute remaining in SHU's 9-8 victory.
The Blue Knights found themselves trailing the Saints 8-3 with 22 minutes to play. Under frigid conditions, Urbana dug deep and mustered a huge comeback. Mar. 9th, 2013The Urbana University women's lacrosse team will return from their Spring Break trip to the Carolinas empty handed after a 13-6 loss to the Trojans from Mount Olive College on Saturday afternoon. Mar. 7th, 2013Playing for the second time in 24 hours, the Urbana University lacrosse team erased a three-goal halftime deficit, but the Blue Knights faltered late in a 10-7 loss at Converse College. Mar. 6th, 2013After a late date switch and two-hour delay caused by a referee flat tire, the Urbana University women's lacrosse team finally opened its 2013 season on Wednesday night. Feb. 27th, 2013The Urbana University lacrosse team will have to wait two more days for the start of the 2013 season. The Blue Knights' season opener at Newberry College originally scheduled for Monday, March 4th at 4:00 p.m. has been pushed back to Wednesday, March 6th at 4:00 p.m. The game is the first of three the Blue Knights will play in the Carolinas during their annual Spring Break trip. UU Picked to Finish 7th in GLIAC
Feb. 21st, 2013The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) lacrosse coaches selected Grand Valley State University to win the league title in the 2013 GLIAC Lacrosse Preseason Poll. This will be the first season that lacrosse will be played in the GLIAC. The league’s head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team. Dragons Drop Blue Knights in Finale
Apr. 27th, 2012The Urbana University women's lacrosse team showed great improvement in its second season of NCAA Division II competition, but the improved play wasn't enough against nearby rival Tiffin University on Friday night. After suffering a 26-2 loss to the Dragons last spring, the Blue Knights kept it closer but still fell 20-8 on the road in the season finale. Urbana outscored Tiffin 5-4 in the second half, but the Dragons secured victory by scoring 16 of the game's first 19 goals. Apr. 21st, 2012On a cold and wet Saturday afternoon on the road, the Urbana University women's lacrosse team earned the second win of the program's second season, racing by the Warriors from Waynesburg University 13-7. The Warriors were coming off a big one-goal victory over West Virginia Wesleyan, but they ran into a Blue Knight squad desperate to end a 5-game losing streak. Apr. 13th, 2012The Denison University Big Red women's lacrosse team defeated Urbana University 21-1 in the Blue Knights' 2012 home finale. Urbana ends its home season 1-4. The Blue Knights are 1-11 overall. Denison, meanwhile, improves to 10-3 with their sixth straight victory. Denison scored the game's first 20 goals before Urbana had an answer. The Blue Knights' lone goal came on an 8-meter shot by freshman Taylor Andersen. The goal was the sixth of the season for Andersen. UU freshman goalkeeper Emily Brumley made 12 saves in goal. Apr. 3th, 2012The Lake Erie College Storm stopped visiting Urbana University 20-7 on Tuesday night, ending a 2-game losing streak while extending the Blue Knights' skid to 3 games. Lake Erie climbs above .500 at 5-4 with the win, while Urbana slips to 1-10 in its second season of competition. Mar. 9th, 2012The Converse College women's lacrosse team opened a big first half lead on their way to a 14-5 win over visiting Urbana University on Friday afternoon. The Valkyries picked up their 3rd win of the season thanks to a fast start. Converse scored the first 4 goals of the game in less than 4 minutes. By halftime, the home team led 11-3. Urbana's defense clamped down in the second half, but it was too little, too late in their third loss of the season. Furious Comeback Falls Short at Newberry
Mar. 7th, 2012Trailing 11-6 with 10 minutes to play, the Blue Knight lacrosse team mounted a furious comeback over the next 5 minutes. Urbana got goals from Taylor Andersen, two from Hannah Walters and another from Chiara Corsmeier to cut the deficit to 11-10 with 5:33 to play. Unfortunately for the Blue Knights, that's when the scoring stopped, and first-year program Newberry picked up the school's first win in the very first home game in women's lacrosse. Rams Ruin Blue Knights' Opener
Mar. 3th, 2012After strong storms and lightning postponed Urbana University's Friday night lacrosse home opener, the teams tried again on Saturday morning. The Blue Knights and visiting Rams from Shepherd University were greeted by freezing temperatures, a few stray snow flakes and 30 mph winds.
