Women's Golf Finishes Fall Season on High Note
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (October 14, 2012) - The Urbana University women's golf team overcame less than ideal playing conditions on Sunday afternoon to put the finishing touches on a strong fall season. After a beautiful Saturday at Wittenberg University's Pat Clouse Invitational, the Blue Knights fought through 30 mph winds and intermittent rain showers on Sunday to post team scores of 359 and 362. Both scores landed in the program's top 10 team scores of all-time. The Blue Knights defeated Notre Dame College and Washington & Jefferson University to take 13th overall in the field of 15.
Only one team in the field managed to improve on their Day 1 score because of the weather conditions. The Blue Knights very nearly pulled off this feat behind the performance of sophomore Kasey Caudill. Caudill cut 9 strokes off her Saturday total to pace Urbana with rounds of 93 and 84. Her windy 84 was a top 20 round all-time at Urbana, and it tied her own personal best, set last fall at Wittenberg's tournament.
Fellow sophomore Lindsey Phillips matched Caudill's 2-day total of 177. Phillips paced Urbana on Saturday with an 86, and she finished her fall season with a 91 on Sunday. Phillips scored the team's lowest tournament scores in 3 of their 4 fall tournaments. Freshman Courtney Tierney led the Blue Knights in their last outing on Thursday, and she finished 3rd on the squad this weekend after consistent rounds of 91-90. Senior Kristen Waryck broke 90 on Saturday with an 89, but she succumbed to the tough conditions on Sunday, shooting a 97 on her way to a 186.
Three more Blue Knights also competed in the final fall tournament. Juniors Amanda Rockhold (103-110) and Shelby Link (102-100), along with senior Carli Crawford (102-114) rounded out the team's scoring. The Blue Knights finished their fall season with an overall mark of 9-24 in 4 fall invitationals. Next spring, Urbana will take the course once again, including a season-ending conference tournament.
