Blue Knights Finish 2nd of 6 at IU-East
LIBERTY, Indiana (October 11, 2012) - On a crisp autumn afternoon at Harbor Links Golf Course in Liberty, Indiana, the Urbana University women's golf team churned out their best team result of the fall, finishing second of six teams at the Indiana University-East Waterfront Classic. Conference foe Ursuline College took home the team championship with a combined score of 354. The Blue Knights shot a collective 375 to take the runner-up position ahead of four other teams, including their hosts from IU-East who shot 453 to finish fifth.
Ursuline took home the top 3 individual spots, but Urbana golfers occupied 4th and 5th place in a field of 35. Freshman Courtney Tierney took home the top spot on the team for the first time in her career, edging sophomore teammate Lindsey Phillips by a single stroke. Tierney finished with a 45 on the back nine, which was 2nd in the field and helped her break 90 for the second time this fall. Phillips went out in 42, which was 2nd best in the field, but a back nine 48 dropped her to 5th place with a 90.
Senior Kristen Waryck kept both her front and back nines under 50 to finish third on the squad and tenth overall with a 96. Junior Amanda Rockhold rounded out Urbana's team score with a score of 100, that was good for 14th overall. Carli Crawford (103) and Shelby Link (105) also competed for the Blue Knights.
On Saturday and Sunday, Urbana puts the finishing touches on its fall season at the Pat Clouse Invitational hosted by Wittenberg University. As a team, the Blue Knights sit at 7-12 heading into the fall finale. [IU-East Waterfront Classic Results]
