Phillips Leads Women's Golf at IWU
MARION, Indiana (September 29, 2012) - For the second straight tournament, sophomore Lindsey Phillips led the Blue Knight women's golf team. Phillips posted the 7th best 2-round total in school history at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Shady Hills Golf Course in Marion, Indiana. As a team, Urbana slipped from 5th on Day 1 to 7th overall after a difficult Day 2. Bethel College ran away with the team championship, shooting 311-315.
The Blue Knights trailed 2nd place St. Mary's College by just 18 strokes after a Friday team score of 353, but a Saturday 364 dropped Urbana 5 strokes behind the hosts from IWU for 7th place in a field of 8 teams.
Phillips was very consistent on both days, carding scores of 85 and 86 to tie for 16th place as an individual. Both rounds were Top 30 rounds all-time at UU, and together, her score of 171 tied teammate Kasey Caudill for the 7th lowest 36-hole tournament score. Phillips also owns the 3rd and 4th lowest 2-round totals at UU.
Urbana's #2 and #3 finishers also turned in very consistent performances. Graduate student Kristen Waryck shot a pair of 89's to finish second on the squad, and freshman Courtney Tierney tallied a 91 and a 92 to take third on the team. Caudill carded an impressive 88 on Friday, but struggled with a 97 on Saturday. Amanda Rockhold rounded out Urbana's scoring with two rounds in the 90's (91-95).
The Blue Knights take the course two more times this fall. On Thursday, October 11th, the team travels to Indiana again for the IU-East Waterfront Classic. The teams tee off at 12:00 p.m. in Liberty, Indiana at the Harbor Links Golf Course. [IWU Results]
