Women's Golf Opens Fall at Ursuline
LYNDHURST, Ohio (September 15, 2012) - The Urbana University women's golf team opened its fall season on Friday at Ursuline College's Fall Invitational. The Blue Knights finished just 4 strokes behind their hosts in 6th place. Walsh University finished first in the field of 8 teams, carding a team score of 324, which was 6 strokes better than the runners-up from D-I Bowling Green State University.
The Blue Knights were led by sophomore Lindsey Phillips (pictured) and freshman Courtney Tierney, who both shot 89 and tied for 14th overall in a field of over 50 golfers. Sophomore Kasey Caudill carded a 95, and senior transfer Kristen Waryck scored a 96 in her Blue Knight debut to round out Urbana's team score.
Three more Blue Knights also competed in the event. Senior Carli Crawford turned in a 94, which is just 3 strokes off her career best. Junior Shelby Link also played well. She missed out on a new personal best by just a single stroke, shooting a 98 at the par-74 Acacia Country Club in Lyndhurst, Ohio. Junior Amanda Rockhold rounded out Urbana's scores with a 103. Rockhold recorded an strong 46 on the front nine before tripping up on the back nine.
The Blue Knights are back in action in 2 weeks at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The tournament is Urbana's first 2-day, 36-hole event of the fall. [Ursuline Results]
