Philllips Wins Springfield City Amateur Title

SPRINGFIELD, OH (June 24, 2012) – After turning in one of the best freshman seasons that the Lady Blue Knight golf team has ever seen, Lindsey Phillips (Springfield/Graham HS) started off the summer in successful fashion.  Phillips concluded the 2-day Springfield Women’s City Amateur hosted by Reid Memorial Golf Course on top of a field that included 30 of the area's finest female golfers.

On Day 1, Phillips put herself in prime position as she shot a 5-over 77.  This score put her in 4th place overall, just 4 strokes behind Day 1 leader Donna Warfield, who shot an impressive 73.  Phillips' 77 would have been good enough for the 3rd lowest round by a Lady Blue Knight all-time. The only scores lower were both shot by former Blue Knight Marie McGinnis, who posted a 76 during the Pat Clouse Invitational at Windy Knoll and the Ohio Valley Invitational staged at Marietta Country Club.

On Day 2, Phillips recorded the lowest round of the day, carding an impressive 78.  This pushed her 2-day total to 155, a number lower than the lowest 36-hole total ever shot by a Lady Blue Knight.  Phillips cruised to a 4-stroke victory over Laaci Farris.  Farris shot rounds of 80 and 79 to shoot 159 and finish in 2nd place.

This is presently the off-season for the Lady Blue Knights as Urbana is out of session for the summer.  Be sure to check back in August as Phillips and the rest of the Lady Blue Knights take to the course under third-year Head Coach Bob Belliveau for  their 8th season of intercollegiate competition.
