Blue Knights Compete in Regional Tournament

KANSASVILLE, Wisconsin (October 1, 2012) - Competing in the first Division II Great Lakes Regional tournament in program history, the Urbana University men's golf team shot their lowest scores of the fall on Sunday and Monday at the difficult Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville, Wisconsin.  The top 24 teams in the Great Lakes Region were in attendance, and after Day 1, the Blue Knights trailed the eventual runners-up from Tiffin University by just 19 strokes.  Unfortunately,  Urbana could not improve upon their Day 1 score which caused the Blue Knights to fall out of contention.  Wayne State won the event with a combined 2-day total of 576.

Urbana was once again led by senior Ross O'Neal.  O'Neal shot 78-76 to finish just 7 strokes out of the Top 20 in a field of over 120 of the best Division II golfers in the region.  Newcomer Kyle England carded his lowest rounds this season to finish second on the squad.  England shot 83-80, and his 3-stroke improvement from Sunday to Monday was a team-best.

Like O'Neal and England, Urbana's final three finishers did not deviate by more than three strokes from Sunday to Monday's round.  R.J. Oberle (81-84), Austin Manning (86-84) and Michael Schmidt (84-86) turned in their most consistent rounds of the fall.  The Blue Knights' overall team scores were 326 and 324.

Urbana's fall season is now complete.
