Urbana Golfers Open Season at ODU

ETNA, Ohio (September 10th, 2012) – The Urbana University men's golf team began the 2012 fall campaign Monday at the 7100-yard Cumberland Trail Golf Club in Etna, Ohio. Ohio Dominican University played host to 5 schools at their annual Kisor Classic. Representing the GLIAC was ODU and Ashland University, Capital University held down the Division III ranks, and Cincinnati State played as an exhibition squad.

Ashland University had a very successful day as they took home both the team championship (599) and had the top two finishers in Brendan Jenkins (145) and Austin Schrieber (147). Rounding out the all-tournament was Kevin Hartoin and Kyle Burgess (147) from ODU and Nick Blackburn (148) from Ashland. Ohio Dominican was a close second as a team at 601, while Capital finished third at 638.

Urbana finished 4th as a team at the Kisor Classic, shooting rounds of 345 and 341. Senior Ross O’Neal (Grove City/Grove City) led all golfers for Urbana firing rounds of 76 and 79 to finish alone in 11th place. Also participating for the Blue Knights were RJ Oberle (Ostrander/Buckeye Valley), Austin Manning (West Lafayette/Ridgewood), Michael Schmidt (Canton/Perry), and Steve England (Carlisle/Eastern Kentucky). Oberle finished second for Urbana in scoring as he shot 175. Next up was Manning who fired a two round total of 176. Rounding out the scoring for Urbana was Schmidt who shot 182. England shot a 92 in the first round but did not finish his second round due to a knee injury suffered late in his round.

The Blue Knights return to action this weekend at the Kyle Ryman Memorial hosted by Tiffin University at Mohawk Golf and Country Club. [Results]
