Golfers Finish Strong at IUP

INDIANA, Pennsylvania (April 16, 2012) - The Urbana University men's golf team finished strong on Day 2 of the 49th Annual IUP-Cecil C. Spadafora Golf Invitational.  On Monday, Urbana carded a team score of 322, a full 15 strokes better than their Sunday score of 337.  The Blue Knights leapfrogged Ohio Valley University with the strong Monday finish, taking 14th place in a field of 15 of the region's stronger programs.  The victory over OVU was Urbana's first of the spring season.  Host IUP won the tournament, firing a 286 and 287 to finish an incredible 5-over as a team.

Senior Ross O'Neal once again paced the Blue Knights.  O'Neal followed Sunday's 80 with a 1-over 73 on Monday to tie for 32nd in the field of 75 golfers.  Freshman Vincent Dugan carded a collegiate best 78 on Day 2.  His 9-stroke improvement was a team-best, and it was the exact total the Blue Knights bested OVU by on Day 2.  Fellow frosh Dylan Anderson carded consistent 84's to finish third on the squad.  Ryan George shot 86-87 in his first tournament of the spring, and freshman Michael Schmidt rounded out Urbana's scoring with scores of 98 and 92.

The Blue Knights are back on the course on next Monday at the Cedarville Invitational in Beavercreek, Ohio.  [IUP Results]
