Lust, Mendenhall Named OCF.com Players of the Week
COLUMBUS, Ohio (September 10, 2012) - After a 34-31 Week 2 home win over Seton Hill University, a pair of Blue Knight football players were named NCAA D-II/FCS Players of the Week by OhioCollegeFootball.com. Junior quarterback D.J. Mendenhall took home Offensive Player of the Week honors, while senior punter Clay Lust was named the Special Teams Player of the Week. It's Lust's second award this week after being named the GLVC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Urbana QB D. J. Mendenhall
Junior quarterback D.J. Mendenhall continues to put up impressive numbers. In leading Urbana to a 34-31 win over Seton Hill, the West Jefferson, Ohio native was 20-of-34 for 293 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, Mendenhall carried the ball nine times for 69 yards to lead UU to a 2-0 record on the season.
Defensive Player of the Week: Ashland LB Domi-on Combs
Sophomore linebacker Domi-on Combs (East St. Louis, Ill.) had seven tackles (five solo), a sack and a quarterback hurry in AU's 7-0 win over fifth-ranked Wayne State. AU had four sacks in the game, picked off two passes and had eight tackles for loss. This is the highest ranked team the Eagles have beaten since a victory at fourth-ranked Ferris State in 1997.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Urbana P Clay Lust
Punter Clay Lust (Prospect, Ohio) was the weapon of choice for the Urbana Blue Knights as the senior launched four punts for a total of 190 yards, averaging 47.5 yards per kick helping UU to a 34-31 win over Seton Hill last Saturday. Lust, who pinned one punt inside the 20-yard line, recorded his longest punt of 62 yards. The senior currently holds the Blue Knight career punting average record of 40.0 yards per punt.
