Football Earns 1st Vote in AFCA Top 25 Poll
WACO, Texas (September 3, 2012) - The Urbana University football team earned its first ever vote in the AFCA D-II Coaches' Top 25 poll, which was released today after Week 1 of the college football season. Coming off a school record 8-3 season in 2011, Urbana scored a huge 53-33 win over perennial D-II powerhouse Tusculum College on Saturday in its home opener.
The Blue Knights were nationally ranked a couple of times in the mid-2000's when the school was still a member of the NAIA. Urbana climbed as high as #17 in that poll, but today's vote is the first time since the school transitioned to NCAA Division II that the Blue Knights have appeared in the D-II Coaches' Poll.
Urbana hosts Seton Hill University in Week 2 at noon. Another win could mean more votes for a Blue Knight squad with its eyes on a Division II playoff bid this season. To view the complete AFCA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, click here.
