Women's Basketball Releases 2012-13 Schedule

URBANA, Ohio (September 5, 2012) - Urbana University Head Women's Basketball Coach Maria Marchesano released the Blue Knights' 2012-13 schedule this week.  Urbana opens the season on the road at Slippery Rock University on Saturday, November 10th at 6:00 p.m.  A week later, on Saturday, November 17th, the Blue Knights host their home opener against Ohio Domincan University at 2:00 p.m.

The schedule also features a matchup with an NCAA Division I opponent.  Urbana will travel to nearby Wright State University to battle the Lady Raiders on December 12th.  Urbana's men toppled D-I Chicago State University last February.  No UU women's team has ever defeated a D-I opponent.  

Another schedule highlight is the team's trip to Puerto Rico from January 2-4.  The Blue Knights will take on a pair of schools from the island during their stay.

The 2012-13 season also marks Urbana's first as a member of an NCAA Division II conference.  Competition in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference will heat up in the new year as Urbana plays 8 conference games in January and February.  The conference slate ends with a post-season tournament hosted by the #1 seed during the weekend of March 7-9.

Marchesano enters her first full slate at the helm of the women's program.  She took control of the Blue Knights last January, guiding the squad to an impressive 12-7 finish after the Blue Knights began the year 2-8.  For her efforts, Marchesano was named the D-II Independent Coach of the Year.  Nearly everyone is back for a young Blue Knight team that had no seniors last season.  To view the entire 2012-13 schedule, click here.
