Goins, Baker & Mitchell Bring Home Awards at Banquet
Apr. 27th, 2013At the Urbana University All-Sports Banquet on Saturday night, Head Men's Basketball Coach Jeff Porter awarded junior Danny Goins the Most Outstanding Performance Award for his record-setting 45-point game against West Virginia State University this past season. The "Heart & Hustle Award" went to sophomore Casey Baker. It was also announced that Baker will serve as team captain in 2013-14. Mitchell, Battle Star in College All-Star Classic
Apr. 16th, 2013Urbana University seniors Ramel Mitchell and Armond Battle were recently selected to play in the 5th Annual JUMP25.com College All-Star Classic in Columbus over the past weekend. The all-star game featured the best collegiate basketball seniors in the state of Ohio. In the NCAA D-II game, Mitchell poured in 15 points to go with 4 assists, 2 steals and a block. Three Blue Knights Earn All-Conference Honors
Mar. 8th, 2013The Great Midwest Athletic Conference presented its 2012-13 Men’s Basketball honors and awards on Friday during the inaugural G-MAC Basketball Championships. Between the semifinal games at Cedarville University, the selected student-athletes were recognized.
The Great Midwest Athletic Conference also presented the All-Conference First, Second, and Honorable Mention teams during the semifinals of the Men’s Basketball Championships. Urbana University placed a Blue Knight on each All-Conference team. Senior guard Armond Battle was the Blue Knights' lone representative on the G-MAC's First Team. Junior guard Danny Goins was named to the Second Team, and senior guard Ramel Mitchell earned Honorable Mention. Read More
Cedarville Eliminates Urbana in G-MAC Semis
Mar. 8th, 2013In the semifinals of the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament, top-seeded Cedarville University eliminated four-seed Urbana University 79-58 on Friday night. Urbana junior guard Danny Goins, a Second Team All-Conference selection, scored a game-high 25 points on 10 of 19 shooting. He added 4 rebounds and 5 assists to the cause. Mar. 6th, 2013On Friday, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference will host its first-ever Men’s and Women’s Basketball Conference Championship Tournament games, as the 2012-13 Men’s Basketball Championship begins with a semifinal game between #3 seed Trevecca Nazarene and #2 seed Central State University, hosted by Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. Following the first semifinal match, #4 Urbana University will take on the top seed and host Cedarville Yellow Jackets.

CSU Deals UU Heartbreaker on Senior Night
Feb. 27th, 2013Playing in front a rowdy home crowd for the final time this season, the Urbana University men's basketball team was unable to end a couple of unlucky streaks against the visiting Marauders from Central State University. The Blue Knights dropped their fourth straight game overall and finished the regular season 0-6 in G-MAC play after the Marauders sweated out a 64-60 victory on Wednesday night. Despite a late miss, Battle registered one of his finest games as a Blue Knight. He finished with a double-double, his second in the last three games. Falcons Finish Season Sweep of UU
Feb. 20th, 2013In January, the Notre Dame College men’s basketball team beat the Blue Knights by a score of 96-87 on Urbana University’s home floor, beginning a season-long 5-game losing streak for the Blue Knights. The Falcons added to Urbana’s misery on Wednesday night in NDC’s Murphy Gymnasium, delivering their guests an 85-75 defeat to complete the season sweep of their future Mountain East Conference foes. Urbana's Armond Battle continued his torrid scoring pace in the loss. The senior scored a game-high 28 points, despite missing on all five of his attempts from deep. Late Charge Sends D-I Chicago State Past UU
Feb. 16th, 2013One year after scoring its first win over a Division I opponent, the Urbana University men’s basketball team fell just short of back-to-back wins over that same squad from Chicago State University. The Cougars avenged last year’s 59-55 loss to the D-II Blue Knights by pulling out a late 82-74 victory at home on Saturday afternoon. UU Completes Season Sweep of SIU
Feb. 14th, 2013On Thursday night in the Grimes Center, the Urbana University men’s basketball team snapped a season-long five-game losing streak. The Blue Knights pulled off a rare three-game sweep over visiting Salem International University with a 98-81 win in front of the home crowd. Earlier this season, Urbana defeated the Tigers by 29 in an invitational hosted by Central State and by 18 at Salem. Feb. 12th, 2013After a strong start, the Urbana University men's basketball team saw their lead evaporate on the road at Cedarville University on Tuesday night. The Blue Knights led for much of the first half, but an 8-0 Yellow Jacket run closed the gap just before the half of a 79-61 Cedarville win. Goins' 45 Points Not Enough in 111-97 Loss to WVSU
Feb. 6th, 2013Junior guard Danny Goins became just the second Blue Knight in almost 50 years to reach the 45-point plateau, but it wasn’t enough at home on Wednesday night in an 111-97 loss to West Virginia State University. Wednesday’s matchup was the first between the Blue Knights and Yellow Jackets since the 1971-72 season when UU romped WVSU 108-95 behind five future UU Hall of Famers. Senior Mark Todd put up 37 points that day, and later that season, he set the all-time UU mark with 49 points in a game. Goins nearly toppled that single-game record that has now stood over four decades. His 45 points came on just 21 shots as UU and WVSU renewed a rivalry that will feature at least two conference matchups a season for years to come. Read More

Falcons Ruin Reid's Career Night
Jan. 30th, 2013The visiting Falcons from Notre Dame College ruined a career night by Urbana University junior C.J. Reid. Reid came off the bench to notch UU career highs for points and rebounds, but the Falcons flew away with a 96-87 win on Wednesday night.
Reid was feeling it early, scoring 6 points and grabbing 6 boards in his first four minutes of floor time. His tip-in with 12:32 to play in the first half put the home team up 16-14 early. Before fouling out with a little over two minutes to play, Reid racked up 25 points and 12 boards for UU. He shot 10 for 16 from the field in just 27 minutes of action. Marauders Finish Strong in Key G-MAC Win
Jan. 23th, 2013The Urbana University men's basketball team watched a 13-point lead fade away late in the second half in a 91-82 loss on the road at conference foe Central State University on Wednesday night. The defeat drops Urbana 9-11 overall and 0-2 early in the conference season. The Marauders' eighth straight victory helps the team maintain their G-MAC lead at 2-0. UU Avenges Earlier Loss to D&E
Jan. 19th, 2013Two weeks ago in West Virginia, Davis & Elkins College defeated the Urbana University men’s basketball team 85-73. On Saturday afternoon, Urbana avenged that loss in the Grimes Center, dealing a 74-65 blow to the Senators. Urbana opened the game on a 10-0 run. The lead reached 16 on Ramel Mitchell’s three-pointer eight minutes into the game. From there, the Blue Knights kept the Senators at bay by out-rebounding their opponents 51-35 and knocking down 21 of 24 free throws. Read More
Saturday's Men's Basketball Game Time Moved to 4 PM
Jan. 17th, 2013The men's basketball game between Urbana University and Davis & Elkins College has been moved back to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Grimes Center. Originally, the game was set to tip-off at 2:00 p.m., but a home swim meet scheduled that same day in the Grimes Center forced the move to 4:00 p.m. Urbana hosts D&E just two weeks after falling 85-73 to the Senators in West Virginia. Urbana hopes to avenge that loss and improve to 4-2 at home this season. Men's Basketball Posts New Academic Highs
Jan. 14th, 2013This past semester, the Blue Knight men's basketball team experienced record academic success under fifth-year Head Coach Jeff Porter. Seven Blue Knights were named to the Athletic Director's Fall Honor Roll for posting a GPA of at least 3.25 during the fall semester, and five earned Academic All-District nominations for maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.30. Urbana's 5 Academic All-District nominations are a new school record. It's quite an incredible feat, considering nominees must have at least sophomore standing, and they must be either a starter or significant contributor, playing at least 50% of the team's games. All 5 of Urbana's nominees have a cumulative GPA above 3.40, and all 5 have started for the Blue Knights this season. Junior guard Danny Goins led all Blue Knights with a perfect 4.0 GPA this fall. The Blue Knights took down the visiting Cougars from Cincinnati-Clermont 82-46. Urbana raced out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back. The advantage ballooned to 44-19 at the halftime break, and the Blue Knights led by as many as 41 halfway through the second half. Dec. 15th, 2012The Urbana University men’s basketball team capped a ten-day tour of Hawaii with a win in their third and final game on Friday night. In a game that tipped off at 1:30 a.m. eastern time, the Blue Knights dropped the Vulcans from the University of Hawaii at Hilo 98-64. The Blue Knights dominated the Vulcans on the glass, out-rebounding the home team 47-25. Dec. 9th, 2012Playing for the second time in a span of 16 hours more than 5,000 miles from home, the Urbana University men's basketball team ran out of gas late against Hawaii Pacific University. The Sea Warriors overcame a 10-point second half deficit, edging Urbana 68-66. The Sea Warriors responded with a 9-1 run immediately after falling behind by 10 early in the second half. Dec. 9th, 2012While you were sleeping, Blue Knight senior guard Armond Battle was busy scoring. Unfortunately, Battle's 31 points weren't enough in Urbana University's 103-88 loss at BYU-Hawaii on Saturday night (or early Sunday morning, depending on your location). The loss came on Day 2 of Urbana's 11-day trip to the island state. Tip-off came at 7:30 p.m. local time, or 1:30 a.m. Urbana time. The high-octane Seasiders tried to take advantage of any lingering effects of jet lag by playing at an incredibly fast pace. Nov. 26th, 2012The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has announced that Danny Goins of Urbana University has been named this weeks Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week. Goins led the Blue Knights to a perfect 2-0 week last week, knocking off Ashland University, 71-68, and Mercyhurst College, 71-63. Nov. 25th, 2012The Urbana University men’s basketball team won their second straight home game on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Knights looked sharp in a 71-63 win over visiting Mercyhurst University. The nation's best team scored 64 first half points en route to a 105-66 victory at Cedarville University's Don Callan Classic. Returning nearly everyone after advancing to the Elite 8 with on the highest scoring team in the nation, the Hilltoppers were impressive in the opener. Toys for Tots Returns to UU
Oct. 31st, 2012The United States Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Foundation will visit the campus of Urbana University on November 20th and 25th this holiday season. Toys for Tots will collect toys and donations during the Blue Knights' home basketball games on both dates. On Tuesday, November 20th, the men's basketball team welcomes Ashland University to the Grimes Center for the Blue Knights' 2012 home opener. The teams will tip-off at 7:00 p.m. game, and on Sunday, November 25th, the men's team will face-off against Mercyhurst University at 2:00 p.m. Free admission to both games will be granted to anyone who donates an unwrapped toy valued at $10 or more. Toys for Tots will also accept monetary donations, and anyone who donates at least $10 to the Foundation will also receive free admission. Read More
Men's Basketball Releases 2012-13 Schedule

Sep. 10th, 2012The Urbana University men's basketball program announced plans to host a 3-on-3 camp on Sunday, October 14th. Sharbaugh Joins Men's Basketball Staff
Jul. 12th, 2012Just this week, Ryan Sharbaugh joined the Urbana University Men's Basketball coaching staff. Sharbaugh becomes a Blue Knight after finishing a stint as an assistant coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College under Jim Boone. The Bobcats finished this past season with a school record mark of 22-9, earning the program’s first ever NCAA Division II Regional Tournament victory. Sharbaugh operated as the recruiting coordinator in addition to handling opponent scouts, post player development, in-game decisions, video editing and exchange, as well as non-conference game scheduling. He will perform similar duties for UU Head Coach Jeff Porter, who enters his fifth season at the helm of the Blue Knight men's basketball program. Read More

Apr. 9th, 2012Senior Sharif Muhammad Jr. (Brooklyn, New York/South Shore HS) has been selected to play in the 4th Annual JUMP25.com College All-Star Classic. Muhammad Jr. Earns Another Award
Mar. 12th, 2012All eight D-II Independent schools were represented on the 2011-12 All-ICAA Men’s basketball team. For the 2nd year in a row, Urbana University's Sharif Muhammad Jr. earned Third Team All-ICAA honors. Muhammad Jr. reached double-digits in 16 of his final 17 games, averaging 17.1 point per game over that span, and he pulled down at least 9 boards in 9 of those final 17 games. He led the Blue Knights in scoring (14.2 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg), blocks (23), minutes (31.5 mpg), field goals made and attempted, free throws made and attempted, and he finished 2nd in assists and 3rd in steals. Muhammad Jr. Named First Team All-OIC
Mar. 8th, 2012rbana University men's basketball player Sharif Muhammad Jr. (Brooklyn, NY/South Shore HS) earned First Team All-Ohio Independent honors today. The award comes at the end of a whirlwind month for the senior guard/forward. Muhammad Jr. saved his best basketball for the final games of his collegiate career. He capped a 16-point comeback with a buzzer-beating game-winner against Central State on February 14th, then he did it again in the first round of the OIC tournament, eliminating 4th seeded Malone with his game-winner at the horn on February 28th. In his final collegiate game, he poured in a career-high 25 points as Urbana nearly upset OIC #1 seed Cedarville in the semi-finals. Read More
