Blue Knights Sweep Lakers behind Melendez's 2-Hitter

CELINA, Ohio (March 28, 2012) - The Urbana University baseball team picked up a pair of road wins on Wednesday afternoon at Wright State University-Lake Campus. The true road sweep was the first of the season for the Blue Knights, who battled constant 35 mph winds to beat the Lakers 4-2 and 5-0.

Drew Ryan was 1 for 2 with a walk, hit by pitch, 2 runs and 5 stolen bases in the Game 1 win.  Taylor Nehls was 2 for 3 with 2 stolen bases.

On the bump, senior Zane Bayliss threw 2 scoreless innings for the win.  Jeff Beall earned his first career save.

Joemar Melendez threw a complete game, 2-hit shutout in Game 2 to carry the Blue Knights to victory. The win came in Melendez's first start as a Blue Knight.

Offensively, Matt Watson broke up a scoreless game in the top of the 4th with an RBI base hit, scoring Colt Turley.  The Blue Knights tacked on 4 more runs in the top of the 5th.  Ben Dellaposta recorded his first collegiate hit, finishing 1 for 1 with a walk and a run.  Kyle England finished 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI, and Josh Allen was 1 for 2 with a HBP and 2 RBIs.

Game 2 was called due to darkness after 5 innings of play.  The game was delayed 35 minutes after an injury to starting Blue Knight second baseman Tyler Mecham.  Mecham was injured turning a double play and had to be taken to St. Mary's Memorial Hospital for stitches.

Currently on a 3-game winning streak, the Blue Knights (9-13) are back in action on Thursday, traveling to regional foe Indianapolis for a single 9-inning affair beginning at 3:00 p.m.
