Men's Swim Team Breaks 10 Records at D-I Miami
The Urbana University swim teams put the finishing touches on the 2013 portion of their season this weekend at NCAA Division I Miami University. In a field consisting of mostly D-I programs or D-III powerhouses, the Blue Knights were the lone representative from D-II, and they carried the torch proudly for the division. The Blue Knight men broke 10 school records and scored 291 points, despite sitting out the opening session on Thursday night. The UU women smashed 6 school records and finished with 97 points.
Matt Stover finished third in the "C" finals in the 100 back. He took down teammate Alex Espinoza's school mark in the process, touching in at 52.13. On Saturday, Stover made the "B" finals in the 200 IM, and he made the "A" finals in the 200 back. He took down teammate Kim Helander's school record in the prelims of the 200 IM (1:55.77) and finished 7th in the "B" finals (1:56.27). His time of 1:52.26 in the 200 back prelims was nearly three and a half seconds faster than his previous personal best, which also doubled as the school record until he shattered that twice on Saturday. In the "A" finals of the 200 back, Stover finished 8th in a new record time of 1:51.81. Read More

Competing in their first major invitational of the 2013-14 season, the Urbana University men's and women's swim teams took fourth place out of five squads at Ohio Wesleyan University over the weekend. The men scored 497 points, finishing just 14 points behind third place Wilmington College. The UU women racked up 325 points. The order of finish on both sides was Ohio Wesleyan, Lake Erie College, Wilmington, Urbana and Defiance College.
The Blue Knight men were led by another first-year standout. Carl Henriksson picked up a pair of individual wins and a pair of new UU records. Henriksson won the 100 breaststroke by nearly a full three seconds over the field, setting a new UU record with a time of 1:00.82. Henriksson also showed great versatility by picking up a win by more than 5 and half seconds in the 200 fly. The freshman had to settle for the runner-up spot in the 200 yard breaststroke, missing out on a new UU record by less than 4 tenths of a second. He got his record with a third place finish in the 400 IM. Henriksson initially broke the UU record at OWU three weeks ago in a dual meet. He swam 4 seconds faster on Sunday. Read More
