Blue Knight Men's Soccer

Welcome to the Urbana University Men's Soccer Webpage,
The Urbana University men’s soccer team finished 2013 with an overall record of 7-7-4, including a conference mark of 6-3-3 (MEC). On the back of our 2012 G-MAC Conference Championship, the team finished a credible 3rd in the new and challenging Mountain East Conference. Despite fielding a young team in 2013, our players showed great promise for the future, as we landed 4 players on the NSCAA All-Region team and a number of MEC Conference awards including Goalkeeper of the Year (freshman) Nathan Jones, and freshman of the year, Ben Fitzpatrick.  Back in 2012, we finished with a 10-7-1 record and captured the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship, the first conference title in school history.

We have a beautiful school with a wide array of academic programs. Urbana University is nestled in the Ohio countryside, but it is within a 45-minute drive of Dayton and Columbus, Ohio. We have a small school environment with an average teaching ratio of 16 students to 1 professor. Our facilities are excellent with an all-weather stadium and grass practice fields. We have locker rooms, a swimming pool and a gymnasium on campus, all within walking distance of all our residence halls.

We seek players who are serious about playing and competing at this level. The same applies to our diligence in the classroom. We seek diligent student-athletes who are committed to helping us maintain our high level of success in the classroom.

Bamber's PK Goal Secures 1-0 Win in MEC Opener

Facing a brutal early schedule, the Urbana University men's soccer team finally secured a signature win on the road on Wednesday night. A 16th minute penalty kick was the difference as Urbana knocked off Wheeling Jesuit University 1-0 under the lights in West Virginia.

It took a penalty kick to separate the evenly matched squads. Shortly after an Urbana corner kick, the Cardinals committed a foul in the box, awarding Urbana a freebie. Mike Bamber, who was an assistant coach on last year's squad that finished with a win and a draw against WJU, banged home his third PK goal of the young season to put the visitors out in front. Men's Soccer Edged by Another Ranked Opponent

Sep. 12th, 2014

The Urbana University Men’s Soccer team dropped an evenly contested match Friday evening to non-conference enemy Mercyhurst University 1-0 at UU Stadium. With the teams deadlocked after the first 45 minutes and matching each other shot for shot, the visiting Lakers were able to get on the board in the 48th minute, leading to the only goal of the game for either team.

The Blue Knights had a chance to score in the 14th minute when Ben Fitzpatrick was able to take a pass over the top and have a one on one with Laker goalkeeper Nicolas Smith. Fitzpatrick tried to beat Smith to his right, but a great save left the Blue Knights scoreless. The teams went to the 2nd half tied at 0-0 until Mercyhurst Junior Sten Marcson took a free kick after an Urbana foul from 40 yards out. Marcson was able to find teammate Jack Watson who then found the back of the net giving the visiting Lakers the 1-0 lead. Read More

The Rock Slips Past UU 1-0

Sep. 7th, 2014

Urbana University men’s soccer program has experienced some major breakthroughs in recent years against top PSAC opponents, but the Blue Knights couldn’t score another impressive win against a regional rival on Sunday afternoon. Last season’s PSAC champs from Slippery Rock University edged Urbana 1-0 on a beautiful afternoon in Pennsylvania.

Urbana’s recent successful run against the cream of the PSAC crop began in 2010 with a 3-1 win over #12 Gannon. In 2011, the Blue Knights went on the road and upset #5 Mercyhurst 1-0. Urbana’s last trip to Slippery Rock resulted in a 2-2 tie with the 25th ranked Rock, but SRU has eked out a couple of 1-0 wins over Urbana in 2013 and 2014. The deciding goal on Sunday came just before the halftime break. Matt Sangermano netted the game-winner in the 41st minute. A couple of tough offsides calls cost Urbana its best opportunities in the second half. UU keeper Nathan Jones stopped 5 Rock shots on goal, but Urbana’s offense has yet to breakthrough and score a goal in 2014. Read More

Nationally Ranked Panthers Ruin UU's Opener

Sep. 4th, 2014

The nation’s 19th ranked men’s soccer team ruined Urbana University’s 2014 home opener on Thursday evening. In-state rival Ohio Dominican University shutout the Blue Knights 2-0 in a non-conference opener for both squads.

The Panthers struck early on Urbana’s home field, netting goals in the 6th and 13th minute. Brent Wahle converted a corner kick from Justin Bonchek for the game’s first goal, and Jakob Szabo blooped a 40-yard shot over Urbana goalkeeper Nathan Jones’ head to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Blue Knight sophomore Alpha Barry responded with a pair of athletic chances in the first half, but both of Barry’s shots clanged off the pipes to leave Urbana scoreless. Read More
