Urbana sophomore defender earns honor
URBANA, Ohio (December 10, 2007) -The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its picks for the 2007 NAIA Women's Soccer All-American teams, as chosen by the NAIA Women's Soccer All-American Selection Committee. Urbana University sophomore Kristen Shope (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll HS) was named an honorable mention all-American defender. Shope, a 5-foot-4 sophomore and defensive force for the Blue Knights, became the second Urbana women's soccer player to be named an all-American. [more]

Five Soccer Players Named NAIA Scholar Athletes
URBANA , Ohio (November 27, 2007) - The 2007 Men's and Women's Soccer Daktronics NAIA Scholar Athlete Teams were recently released and five Urbana University student athletes were honored.
Blue Knight men's soccer players Derek Ballas (Massillon, Ohio), Eric Miller (Grove City, Ohio) and Rick Schnipke (Kalida, Ohio), all seniors, were honored on the list. Seniors Dee Clemons (Piqua, Ohio) and Brittany Webb (Springfield, Ohio) represented the Urbana women's soccer team as NAIA Scholar Athletes.
Five Blue Knights Named All-AMC
URBANA, Ohio (October 30, 2007) - Following a record-breaking season by the Blue Knight women's soccer team, the individual honors have started to roll in. Urbana posted a 14-win season and made it to the American Mideast Conference tournament for the first time since 2001.Five Blue Knights were honored when the all-AMC teams were released today.Seniors Darby McCullough (Urbana, Ohio/Graham), a forward, and Julie Glaser (Xenia, Ohio/Xenia), a midfielder, and sophomore defender Kristen Shope (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) were named second team all-AMC. Blue Knights Shut Out 2-0 in AMC Tournament
Panthers' Burgei scores twice in Urbana's second loss to ODU
COLUMBUS (Oct. 27, 2007) - The Blue Knights' terrific, record-breaking season came to an end Saturday night at Panther Field with a 2-0 loss to NAIA No. 19 Ohio Dominican (14-3, 5-1 AMC) in the American Mideast Conference Tournament. Urbana (14-5, 4-2 AMC) suffered just five losses all season - two of which were against ODU. Urbana's 2007 season is one that saw the Blue Knights break the record for single-season wins (14) and tie the record for shutouts (8). Also, junior Abi Nelson broke the single-season record for assists (11). [Stats]
Urbana to Take on Panthers in Playoffs
The Blue Knight women's soccer team will play at Ohio Dominican (13-3, 5-1 AMC) this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Panther Field in the American Mideast Conference Tournament. Urbana, which finished third in the AMC South Division, closed out the 2007 regular season with a 14-4 overall record, including 4-2 in conference play. The 14 wins broke an Urbana single season record for victories.
The NAIA No. 10 Panthers earned a share of the AMC South Division title, but Mount Vernon Nazarene won the head-to-head match against ODU, 4-0 (Oct. 23). That win earned the Cougars an automatic bid to the NAIA Region IX Final Four which will be played on Nov. 2-3 at Mount Vernon. Houghton (11-2-2, 7-0 AMC) earned the automatic bid from the North Division. With a win over ODU, the Blue Knights would also advance to the Region IX Final Four. ODU dealt Urbana one of its two conference losses this season, 3-0 on Sept. 26. The last time the Blue Knights advanced to AMC playoffs was in 2001.

Abi Nelson scores twice in Blue Knights' win over Shawnee State
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Oct. 20, 2007) - The Blue Knights bounced back in a big way with a 3-0 American Mideast Conference win over Shawnee State on Saturday. Senior Julie Glaser put Urbana on the board first with an assist from fellow senior Darby McCullough in the 19th minute. Junior Abi Nelson scored the first of her two goals in the 36th minute to give Urbana a 2-0 halftime lead. Nelson, who has a team-leading 27 points, put the game away midway through the second stanza, hitting her second goal in the 76th minute. Urbana (14-4, 4-2 AMC) advances to the AMC Tournament which will be played this Saturday, Oct. 27. [Stats]
Blue Knights Suffer Back-to-Back Shutouts
Notre Dame's Bernot gets hat trick in 3-0 decision
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 18, 2007) - Urbana lost by shutout in back-to-back contests, most recently a 3-0 setback to Notre Dame College on Thursday at Ellis Field. The Blue Knights struggled against the 23-mph winds as the Falcons used it to their advantage. Natlaie Bernot scored the first of three goals, on a corner kick that found the far post. Bernot scored again in the 35th minute on a free kick to give NDC a 2-0 lead at the half. She finished off the hat trick with another taser on a free kick, this one in the 70th minute of the match. Urbana (13-4-2) plays its final regular season match at Shawnee State in a must-win American Mideast Conference contest Saturday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. A win ensures the Blue Knights will earn a berth to the AMC Tournament. Walsh shuts out Blue Knights, 4-0, at Ellis Field
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 13, 2007) - Urbana trailed just 1-0 at the half to Walsh University, but after four games in eight days, the Blue Knights struggled to contain the Walsh attack and fell 4-0 in the American Mideast Conference match. The Cavaliers (12-3-2, 2-2-1 AMC) out shot Urbana, 25-12, to keep its playoff hopes alive. The Blue Knights host Notre Dame in a non-conference match this Thursday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m., and then travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to take on Shawnee State for their regular season finale and a key AMC match on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. [Stats]

BEREA, Ky. (Oct. 6, 2007) - The Blue Knight women's soccer team improved to 11-2 after a 6-0 non-conference win over Berea College Saturday. It's the second consecutive game Urbana has won by six goals. They knocked off Rio Grande, 6-0, a week ago in American Mideast Conference action. Senior Darby McCullough scored three goals to pace Urbana. Senior Dee Clemons and freshmen Kara Waldon and Randi Granat each scored a goal. Junior Abi Nelson and freshman M.E. Daniels had two assists each. Senior Julie Glaser and Brittany Webb, along with freshmen Granat and Micki Sumner also each had one assist. Heather Maus was credited with the shutout and had one save. Even rarer is siblings playing at the same college. The Blue Knights boast a sibling connection. The brother and sister duo of Will and M.E. Daniels, of Lake Orion, Mich., not only share a last name, but also both play for Urbana University's soccer programs. [more]
Blue Knights Ranked 4th in Region IX
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 2, 2007) - The Blue Knight women's soccer team is ranked fourth in the most recent NAIA Region IX ratings. Urbana University (10-2, 2-1 AMC) is undefeated at home at Ellis Field (6-0) and were victorious over Mount Vernon Nazarene, 3-2, on Sept. 22, marking the first time the Blue Knights have defeated MVNU since 2001. Urbana is coming off a 6-0 American Mideast Conference win over Rio Grande on Sept. 30. The Blue Knights play at Berea, Ky. this Saturday at 2 p.m. for a non-conference match and return to Ellis Field to host Cedarville in a key AMC contest Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m.

GOSHEN, Ind. (Sept. 13, 2007) - Blue Knight freshman Micki Sumner's first collegiate goal was a big one and proved to be the game winner in Urbana's 1-0 win over Goshen College Thursday. Sumner scored in the 53rd minute on an assist from junior Abi Nelson, giving Nelson a team-high six helpers this season. UPLAND , Ind. (Sept. 11, 2007) - The Blue Knight women's soccer team chalked up another victory, improving to 6-1 on the season, after a 2-1 win over Taylor University Tuesday. Urbana jumped to a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to goals by Abi Nelson and Darby McCullough. Nelson scored five minutes into the match beating the defense to a thru ball from Julie Glaser. McCullough also scored her goal on a breakaway after a good ball from Nelson. Nelson and McCullough each have three goals this season, tied for the team lead. Nelson leads the team with 11 points. CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Melanie Johansing is the AMC Defensive Player of the Week for matches played on Aug. 27 through Sept. 2. Johansing, a 5-foot-11 sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, logged all 270 minutes in goal with two shutouts during Urbana's 3-0 week. She made one save in a 4-0 win over Huntington, stopped four shots during a 2-1 win vs Point Park, and finished with three saves in a 3-0 victory at Grace.

2007 Urbana Women's Soccer Preview
The Blue Knight women's soccer team is coming off a record-breaking season, and aim to accomplish even more in 2007. Urbana University went 9-8-1 last year, with six of its eight losses by two goals or less. Knights Receive Scholastic Honor
URBANA, Oh (Feb. 5, 2007)-- The 2006 Urbana University women's soccer team has been awarded the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Athletics Association) Academic Team Award by having a team average GPA of a 3.0 or higher. This is the fourth year in a row that the women's soccer team has received this honor.
