Two Knights Named NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete
Urbana, Oh (Nov. 20, 2006)-- Juniors Dee Clemons (Piqua) and Brittany Webb (Springfield) were named to the Daktronics NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete team for their excellence on the field and in the classroom. Clemons, a defender, is a science major.

All-AMC Honors Go to Three Urbana Women
CEDARVILLE, Oh (Nov. 9, 2006)-- Three Blue Knights received honorable mention All-AMC honors when the teams were released on Thursday. Seniors Liz Markley, Jessica Boy, and Marge Warnament all earned their award for their efforts in the season for the Blue Knights. Goalkeeper Markley recorded 93 saves for the year and ended her career with 413 saves which ranks 1st at Urbana. She also ranks first in shut outs with 13. Markley was a 2nd team selection a year ago along with being named an NAIA All-American Honorable Mention. Forward Jessica Boy kicked in 12 goals this season and finished up her career with 29 goals which ranks second in Urbana history. She also has recorded seven assist to bring her to 17 for her career which is 3rd all-time. This year, Boy has set school records for most goals in a single game (6) and most points in a single game (14). She was an AMC Honorable Mention in 2005 as well. Warnament, a defender, is a three year AMC Honorable Mention selection. She is a valuable asset to the Blue Knight defense and served as a team captain. She recorded three assists and one goal this season.

Blue Knights Take Down Bears
PORTSMOUTH, Oh (Oct. 24, 2006)-- Urbana women's soccer finished up the season with a 3-0 win over Shawnee State University. The Blue Knights out shot the Bears 20-8 on the way to the victory. Urbana scored early as Brittany Sword scored an unassisted goal in just the 4th minute of play. Carrie Ricket put one in the net in the 33rd minute off of an Abigail Nelson assist. In the second period, Darby McCullough came through on an unassisted goal to finish off the game in the 84th minute. Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley recorded the shutout with six saves. Urbana finishes at 9-8-1 and 3-5 in the AMC.

Boy Ties Record
URBANA, Oh (Oct. 17, 2006)-- With her goal against Mount Vernon, Jessica Boy tied the school record for goals in a season with 14. Michelle Williams currently is also at 14 goals for the season. Boy has a chance to break the record in her last game on Tuesday Oct. 24th at Shawnee State University.

Urbana drop game to MVNU
URBANA,Oh (Oct. 17, 2006)-- Urbana University women's soccer team lost a tough game against Mount Vernon Nazarene University 2-1. MVNU scored once in the first and again in the early second but Urbana senior Marge Warnament found senior forward Jessica Boy to finally get Urbana on the board. They fought the rest of the game but failed to find the back of the net again. This was the last home game for the Urbana University women's soccer seniors that include Warnament, Boy, Sarah Shope, and goalie Liz Markley who recorded four saves. Freshman goalkeeper Melanie Johansing also recorded four saves for the Blue Knights.

Pioneers Blank Blue Knights
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 14, 2006) -- Urbana held Malone scoreless in the second half, but it still wasn't enough to overcome the two goals the Pioneers had scored in the first half. Urbana goalkeepers Liz Markley and Melanie Johansing recorded 4 saves each for the Blue Knights.

Blue Knights top Cedarville
URBANA, Ohio (Oct. 11, 2006)-- Junior forward Darby McCullough scored at the end of the second to propel Urbana to a 1-0 victory of the visiting Cedarville Lady Jackets. Abigail Nelson was credited with the assist off a corner kick. Liz Markely recorded three saves in the goal for the Blue Knights.

Panthers out shoot, out score Urbana
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 27, 2006)-The Urbana Blue Knights women's soccer team dropped to 1-1 in the American Mideast Conference with a 2-0 loss to Ohio Dominican University at Ellis Field. ODU first found the back of the net with 22:49 left in the first period. In the first half for Urbana, Heather Maus had 12 saves. Darby McCollough had two great scoring attacks in the second half to tie the game but came up short. ODU scored again with 1:44 remaining in the second half to seal the victory. Liz Markley had 15 saves in the second half including 2 diving saves. The Panthers out shot the Blue Knights 28-8. Urbana is now 7-4-1 on the season.

Urbana Blanks Redwomen
RIO GRANDE, Ohio (Sept. 20, 2006) -- The Urbana University Women's Soccer Team won 3-0 on Wednesday evening at Evans Field. With the victory, their first in the AMC this season, the Blue Knights improve to 7-2-1 overall.

Jessica Boy named Offensive Player of the Week
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (Sept. 19, 2006) - Senior forward Jessica Boy (Carlisle, Oh) was given the top offensive honor as she scored seven goals and five assists in two Urbana victories. During a 6-1 win over Bluffton, Boy scored a goal and offered up two assists. She booted in an impressive six goals and had three assists in a 22-0 pounding of Pikeville (Ky). Her six goals were good enough to set an Urbana single-game record.

Urbana Cruises to 6-1 Victory
BLUFFTON, Ohio (Sept. 13, 2006) -- The Blue Knight men's and women's soccer teams picked up victories in a double header against Bluffton College tonight. The women's team, who have outscored opponents 16-1 in the last four games, had a goal fest in their 6-1 win. Brittany Sword led Urbana with two goals, while Jessica Boy scored a goal and had an assist. Julie Glaser, Carrie Rickett and Trish LaTella each scored goals for Urbana, while Lauren Alford, Dee Clemons and Brittany Webb had assists. Urbana out shot the Beavers 20-12. Liz Markley and Heather Maus each had two saves in goal and Mel Johansing had  six. Urbana (5-2-1) hosts Pikeville College, Ky. this Saturday in a double header. The men's team plays the Bears at 3:30 p.m. and the women's game follows at 5:30 p.m.

Markley Named AMC Player of the Week

Urbana goalkeeper Liz Markley (Cedarville, OH) is the American Mideast Conference women's defensive soccer Player of the Week. Markley, a 5-6 senior, made 12 saves total in a pair of shutouts. She stopped six shots in a 1-0 win versus Marian IN and registered six more saves in a 2-0 victory over Point Park. Abigail Nelson was considered for Offensive Player of the Week after netting two of Urbana's three goals during a 2-0 week.

 

Urbana Posts Third Consecutive Shutout
PITTSBURGH (Sept. 10, 2006) - The Blue Knight women's soccer team posted its third consecutive shutout behind senior All-American goalkeeper Liz Markley. The latest victim of Urbana's was a 2-0 victory over Point Park University. Abigail Nelson scored her second game winning goal in as many matches, this one coming on a penalty kick. Freshman Megan Moser headed in the insurance goal with 40 seconds remaining in the game on assists from Jessica Boy and Brittany Webb. Markley had six saves in the win. Urbana (4-2-1) plays at Bluffton College this Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 3 p.m.

Nelson's First Goal a Game Winner
URBANA, Ohio (Sept. 7, 2006) - Sophomore forward Abigail Nelson scored her first goal of the 2006 season tonight, the only goal in Urbana University's 1-0 standoff against Marian College, Ind. The Blue Knights dealt the Knights their first loss of the season, meanwhile Urbana improves to 3-2-1. Freshman Kelsey Riviello's cross to the middle of the box made Nelson's goal possible. Liz Markley had six saves in goal for Urbana and posted her second shutout. The Blue Knights had 14 shots to Marian's 13, but Urbana created many more close opportunities. Urbana plays at Point Park, Pa. this Sunday at 2 p.m.

 

 

Urbana Shuts Out Tri-State
ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 3, 2006) - The Blue Knight women's soccer team went on a scoring frenzy with a 7-0 shutout against Tri-State University Sunday at the Lightnings' tournament. Urbana scored fast and often, opening the first half with a 4-0 lead. Freshman Stephanie Chmiel scored first on assist from Abbie Nelson. Elisha Strous found the back of the net after a pass from junior Julie Glaser - the first of her three assists on the afternoon. Jessica Boy scored the next goal, assisted by Glaser. Glaser was finished her assist hat trick with a pass to freshman Lauren Alford, who put away a goal for Urbana's four-goal lead at the half. Carrie Rickett scored a goal on an assist from Kelsey Riviello to start out the second half. Glaser got a goal of her own and Boy finished off the scoring for the 7-0 final. The Blue Knights out shot Tri-State 48-2. Urbana goalkeepers Liz Markley and Mel Johansing each had a save. Urbana (2-2-1) hosts Marian College, Ind. this Thursday at 5 p.m.

Last Second Goal Leads to Draw
ANGOLA, Ind. (Sept. 2, 2006) - Senior Jessica Boy keeps coming up with big goals for the Blue Knights. The forward has scored a game-winner and now a game-tying goal, leading Urbana to a 2-2-1 record so far this season. Boy scored with 16 seconds remaining in the game to tie NCAA Buffalo State 1-1 in the opening game of the Tri-State tournament. Senior Liz Markley had 12 saves in goal for the Blue Knights.

No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan Too Tough for Knights
NAIA No. 17th ranked Indiana Wesleyan defeated Urbana University 5-0. The Wildcats improve to 2-1 with the victory while the Blue Knights drop to 1-2. Liz Markley had nine saves in goal just two days after getting nine stitches above her eye in an injury suffered during Urbana's 1-0 win over Notre Dame. Freshman Melanie Johansing had three saves in the second half, and sophomore Heather Maus recorded two saves. Urbana plays at the Tri-State University tournament this weekend before returning home to host Marian on Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.

Boy Lifts Blue Knights to Victory

URBANA, Ohio (August 27, 2006)- The Urbana University women's soccer team picked up its first win of 2006 off the foot of senior Jessica Boy. After suffering a tough 3-1 loss yesterday to Geneva, the Blue Knight women's soccer team came out for this afternoon's match against the Notre Dame Falcons hungry for a victory. Boy, once again, scored the team's only goal, but this time it proved to be enough as the team recorded a 1-0 win today at Ellis Field. Boy's goal came just 38 seconds into the game when she followed up freshman Kelsey Riviello's initial shot which was deflected by the Falcon's goalie. This victory improves the Blue Knights' record to 1-1. Their next match up is Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at Indiana Wesleyan at 7 p.m.

Boy Scores First Goal at Ellis Field
URBANA, Ohio (August 26, 2006) - Blue Knight senior Jessica Boy scored the first ever goal on Ellis Field at Urbana University Stadium today, but the women's soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes tonight. The women's game followed the Blue Knight football game in which Urbana defeated Southern Virginia University, 52-7. Boy scored her goal just eight minutes into the game on a beautiful kick by junior Julie Glaser. The Tornadoes answered with a goal late in the half and scored two more in the 57th and the 72nd minutes in the second half. Urbana hosts Notre Dame Sunday, August 27, 2006 at 3 p.m.

The Blue Knight women's soccer team is gearing up for its season opener, Saturday, August 26 against Geneva College, Pa. at 5 p.m. The game will be played on Urbana's new field.
