LIMA, Ohio (August 28, 2010) - Urbana University freshman Marie McGinnis tied a school record in her first collegiate round of golf, firing an 82 to set a strong pace for the Blue Knights in their first weekend of competition. Behind McGinnis, the Blue Knights finished 3rd at the University of Northwestern Ohio Racer Invitational. Madonna University won the event with a cumulative 2-day score of 680. The hosts from UNOH finished in 2nd with a 719, and Urbana took 3rd with a 750. A total of 7 teams competed in the fall season's first tournament.
McGinnis finished just one stroke off her record pace in Round 2, carding an 83 on Saturday to finish in 4th place overall. Fellow freshman Shannon Schobelock also had an impressive debut for the Blue Knights. Schobelock shot 94-92 to take 14th overall. Urbana's lone senior, Katie Rupley (pictured), opened her final fall season with a personal best 94 on Friday. She finished with a 100 on Saturday to take 19th overall. Sophomore Carli Crawford finished two spots back with a 110-98. A third Blue Knight freshman, Shelby Link, rounded out Urbana's scoring with a 107-102 in her first collegiate competition.
Urbana's fall season continues on September 10th, when the Blue Knights travel to Richmond, Indiana for IU-East's Invitational at the Highland Lake Golf Course. [UNOH Invitational Results]
