Spring Break Day 1 Recap: Urbana Splits

KISSIMMEE, Florida (March 7, 2010) - The Blue Knights opened the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida with a Day 1 split.  Urbana erupted for 8 unanswered runs in a come-from-behind 8-3 win over Wilmington (DE) on Sunday morning.  In their afternoon contest, the Blue Knights were edged 4-0 by Edinboro.

Megan Anderson had 4 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs in an 8-3 win over Wilmington.Brooke Shultz was 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs in a win over Wilmington.Against Wilmington, Urbana fell behind 2-0 after the first 2 innings.  Sophomore catcher Megan Anderson (pictured far left) knocked in leadoff hitter Brooke Shultz (pictured left) in the bottom of the 3rd to get the Blue Knights on the board. 

The duo of Shultz and Anderson struck again in the 4th inning.  With 2 outs, Shultz drove in Carly Ivan to tie the game at 2.  After a Brittany Heunen walk, Anderson hit her 2nd RBI-single of the game to give the Blue Knights their first lead at 3-2.  The Blue Knights weren't finished yet.  Sophomore Tieana Steele knocked in Heunen with another 2-out RBI-single, and junior pitcher Tami Lasley tacked on 1 more run with the Blue Knights' 4th RBI-single of the inning.

Urbana added some insurance with a 3-run 6th inning to take a 8-2 lead.  Anderson got things started with her 4th single of the game.  She finished 4-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  A walk by Steele and a single by Lasley loaded the bases, and Ivan brought home 2 runs with her second hit of the game.  Shultz rounded out the Blue Knights scoring with a 2-out RBI single, and Urbana held on for the 8-3 win.  Shultz finished 3-for-5 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  Lasley went the distance on the mound to earn her first win of the year. 

Urbana dropped their second game to Edinboro by a score of 4-0.  The Scots' Beth Mullins threw a complete game shutout, holding the Blue Knights to just 3 hits, and freshman Jessica VanDamia knocked in all 4 Edinboro runs for the Scot's season-opening win.  Urbana is now 1-1 on Spring Break and 1-3 overall.  They take on Wheeling Jesuit and Chestnut Hill at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Monday.
