Ertel, Stratton Share Top Honors This Week

Cortney Ertel is the Family Dentistry Student-Athlete of the Week.Julie Stratton is the Family Dentistry Student-Athlete of the Week.URBANA, Ohio (March 20, 2010) - On Spring Break in Tucson, Arizona, the Urbana University women's golf team earned their win since the fall of 2007.  The Blue Knights knocked off Judson University and #14 St. Lawrence University in the Tucson Invitational Games on some of the toughest courses they have ever faced.  Leading the team to victory was senior Cortney Ertel (Woodstock, Ohio/Triad HS) and junior Julie Stratton (Springfield, Ohio/Kenton Ridge HS).  Today, the tandem shared honors as the Family Dentistry Student-Athletes of the Week.

Ertel and Stratton placed 2nd and 3rd overall in the tournament.  The win was the team's best result since finishing runner-up in Urbana's final AMC tournament 2 years ago.  For Ertel, it's the second year in a row she has been named the top student-athlete of the week after a stellar opening tournament.  She broke out 2009 with a 93 and an 85 at ODU's Icebreaker Tournament last March, proving that the long winters have little effect on her game.  Ertel owns the top 5 scores all-time at Urbana.  She is tied with Stratton for the 6th best score in program history.  Both golfers were recently named to the Athletic Director's Fall Honor Roll for maintaining a GPA over 3.25.

Also considered for this week's award were baseball players Taylor Griebel, Trace Fowler, and Shane Pfouts.
