Baskin Named 2nd Team All-AMC for Blue Knights
URBANA, Ohio (December 1, 2005) - Urbana University men's soccer player Josh Baskin (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont HS) was named to the 2005 All-American Mideast Conference South Division Second Team. Baskin, a junior forward, is a three-time second-team selection. This season he had three goals and two assists. Seniors Mike Bowers (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee HS) and Jake Mahaffey ( Xenia, Ohio/ Xenia HS), and freshmen Kyle Bertz (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota HS) and Will Daniels (Lake Orion, Mich/Rochester Adams HS) were Honorable Mention selections for the Blue Knights. Bowers, Daniels and Mahaffey were a part of the stingy Urbana defense. Bowers had two goals and two assists in his final season with the Blue Knights. Mahaffey had one assist. Bertz contributed three goals and four assists in his rookie season.

Blue Knights Battle Nationally Ranked Rio
URBANA, Ohio (October 22, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team dropped a tough 5-1 American Mideast Conference contest to the NAIA No. 2 University of Rio Grande Saturday. The Redmen, riding a 47-conference game winning streak, only led 1-0 at halftime and 2-0 with 10 minutes to play in the game. Senior Mike Bowers, playing in his last home game, scored Urbana's only goal on assist from fellow senior Jake Mahaffey to make it 4-1. Freshman Micah Fisher had five saves in goal for Urbana, now 6-10-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the AMC. Rio improves to 14-0 and 6-0 in the AMC. Urbana plays its last game of the season this Tuesday at Ohio Dominican at 3 p.m.

Blue Knights Tie In AMC Play

URBANA, Ohio (October 19, 2005) - The Urbana University men's soccer team tied in a scoreless battle against Mt. Vernon University in the American Mideast Conference. The Blue Knights fought 110 minutes to a double overtime tie. This was a tough physical game where the Blue Knights out shot the Cougars 11-8. Mika Fisher had four saves for the Blue Knights. Urbana University's record moves to 6-9-1 overall and now 2-3-1 in the AMC. The Cougars now are 9-3-3 and 3-2-1 in the AMC. The Blue Knights will host NAIA No. 2 University of Rio Grande this Saturday at 3 p.m. in their last home game, also an AMC match up.

Urbana Drops Daemen 2-0
URBANA, Ohio (October 15, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team defeated Daemen College of Amherst, NY 2-0 Saturday in non-conference action. Junior Chris Hortsman put Urbana on the board first with an assist from freshman Kyle Bertz. Junior Tom Woodruff gave the Blue Knights some cushion with a goal in the 60th minute on a direct penalty kick. Urbana (6-9) outshot the Wildcats (5-8-1) 18-5. Phil Hutchinson had two saves in goal for Urbana, while Micah Fisher had one save for the Blue Knights. Urbana hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in an American Mideast Conference showdown.

Blue Knights Dominate Beavers in 3-0 Win
URBANA, Ohio (October 13, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team knocked off the Bluffton Beavers 3-0 Thursday night in a non-conference match. Senior Mike Bowers started off the scoring, finishing off a pass from freshman Kyle Bertz with 14:12 left in the first half. Early in the second half junior Josh Baskin put away a goal on a header on a cross from junior Chris Beisner, who got the pass from junior Tom Woodruff. Bertz rounded out the scoring on another header. Bowers and junior Chris Hortsman were credited with assists on the goal. Freshman Phil Hutchinson had two saves in goal for the Blue Knights, while freshman Micah Fisher nabbed four saves. Urbana (5-9) hosts Daemen, NY this Saturday at 3 p.m. in an AMC crossover match.

Tiffin Nips Urbana in AMC Match
URBANA, Ohio (October 11, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team had a 1-0 lead midway through the first half over Tiffin University, but the Dragons scored twice late in the half for a 2-1 American Mideast Conference win. Urbana freshman Kyle Bertz crossed a ball by the six and senior Mike Bowers got a head on it. Junior Chris Hortsman finished the shot, heading it to the back of the net, with 27:11 to play in the first half for the first score of the game. Tiffin scored a goal on a ball that wasn't cleared properly with 8:58 remaining in the first period. The Dragons (8-4-1 overall and 4-1 AMC) scored the game winner with 33 seconds left in the half on a free kick. Phil Hutchinson had one save in goal for Urbana, now 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the AMC. Urbana hosts Bluffton Thursday at 4 p.m. in a non-conference match.

Blue Knights Edge Malone
NORTH CANTON, Ohio (October 8, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team edged out Malone College 3-2 Saturday in American Mideast Conference action. Freshman Kyle Bertz scored Urbana's first goal with 25 minutes left in the first half. Junior Chris Beisner scored for the Blue Knights with 13 minutes left. The Pioneers also netted two goals and the score was tied at the half. Junior Josh Baskin scored the game winner with 19 minutes remaining in the game on an assist from Bertz. Phil Hutchinson had eight saves in goal for the Blue Knights, 4-8 overall and 2-2 in the AMC. Urbana hosts Tiffin University Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Blue Knights Notch AMC Win Over Bears
URBANA, Ohio (October 4, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team picked up its first American Mideast Conference win with a 2-1 win over Shawnee State University. Junior Chris Beisner found the back of the net just five minutes into the game on an assist from sophomore Troy Smith. Midway through the first half freshman Kyle Bertz finished an assist from Smith and Chris Horstman to put Urbana up 2-0. Shawnee State struck late in the second half, but the Blue Knights held off the charge for the win. Freshman Phil Hutchinson had three saves in goal for Urbana, now 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the AMC. The Blue Knights play at Malone College this Saturday at 4 p.m. in an AMC match.

Blue Knights Fall to Walsh
Urbana, OH (Sept. 24, 2005)- The Urbana University varsity men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss to nationally ranked Walsh University in their American Mideast Conference opener. The Blue Knights are now 2-7 and 0-1 in conference. The Blue Knights will travel to Cedarville on Tuesday September, 27 at 7 p.m.

Blue Knight Scoring Woes Continue
LATROBE, Pa. (Sept. 19, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to St. Vincent College in a cross over match Monday night. The Blue Knights have scored just six goals in eight games. Sophomore Derek Ballas had five saves in goal. Urbana drops to 2-6 overall while St. Vincent improves to 5-3. Urbana plays its American Mideast Conference opener at home this Saturday when they take on Walsh (ranked 27th in the country) at 3 p.m.

Urbana Men's Soccer Wins First Match
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 14, 2005) -- The Blue Knight men's soccer team came up big with a 2-0 victory against Marian College Wednesday night. The teams battled to a scoreless first half. Urbana got on the board first due to a Marian miscue and own goal. Sophomore Eric Miller padded the Blue Knight lead on an assist from junior Josh Baskin. Derek Ballas had 9 saves in goal for Urbana, now 1-5 overall. Marian's record drops to 4-2-1 overall. Urbana hosts St. Francis, Ind. this Saturday at 2 p.m.

Tornadoes Edge Urbana
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. (Sept. 10, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team lost 2-1 in a non-conference contest at Geneva College Saturday. Junior Adam Green scored the Knights' lone goal on an assist from sophomore Troy Smith. Sophomore Derek Ballas notched 9 saves in goal. Urbana drops its record to 0-5 while the Tornadoes improve to 2-1.

Nationally Ranked Cumberland Drills Urbana

CUMBERLAND, Ky. (Sept. 7, 2005) -- Urbana University drops to 0-4 after a tough 9-1 loss to University of the Cumberlands, Ky. Wednesday night. Cumberlands, with a 4-0 record and ranked 22nd in the NAIA men's soccer poll, led 3-0 at the half.

Junior Josh Baskin scored the lone Blue Knight goal on an assist from junior Chris Horstman and freshman Andy Szybisty. The Blue Knights play at Geneva, Pa. this Saturday at 3 p.m.

Men's Soccer Falls in Close Match
ANDERSON, Ind. (Sept. 4, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team fell 1-0 to Anderson University Sunday. Urbana has yet to find the back of the goal this season. They fall to 0-3 overall. Anderson, meanwhile, improved to 1-1. The Blue Knights play at Cumberland (ranked 22nd in the NAIA) at 6 p.m. this Wednesday.

Blue Knights Blanked by Calvin
ANDERSON, Ind. (September 3, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to Calvin University, Mich. Saturday in the opening round of the Anderson University (Ind.) tournament.

Derek Ballas had three saves in goal in the first half, while Phil Hutchison had four saves in the second half.

Urbana (0-2) plays host Anderson Sunday at 1 p.m.

Urbana Drops Season Opener to Notre Dame
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio (Aug. 26, 2005) - The Blue Knight men's soccer team fell, 3-0, to Notre Dame College in its season opener Friday.

Derek Ballas had 10 saves in goal for Urbana. The Blue Knights play Calvin, MI in the first round of the Anderson University tournament this Friday at 3 p.m

Blue Knight Men's Preseason Soccer
The Urbana University men's soccer team had two scrimmages this weekend to prep for the 2005 season.

Saturday the Blue Knights took on Taylor University, with the varsity team winning 2-1. Juniors Tom Woodruff and Josh Baskin each scored for Urbana. Sunday the Blue Knights won, 1-0, with the lone goal from Baskin.

"These matches were great preparation for our opener against Notre Dame," said Head Coach Jim Wendling.

The Blue Knights open the season this Friday, Aug. 26 at Notre Dame of Ohio with a 6 p.m. kickoff. The Blue Knight women's team takes on Notre Dame at 4 p.m.
