Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young appointed Jerome Armstrong as the newest head coach of the men's golf program, effective immediately after the 2009 Fall Season.  Armstrong joined the program as an assistant before the fall season.  Armstrong will replace Young, who took control of the program following the 2008 spring season.

"The team is excited to have Jerome in charge of the program," explained Young.  "He got to know the golfers this past fall, and the team really responded and showed improvement behind his knowledge and golfing instruction."

An Urbana native, Armstrong is a 1992 graduate of Urbana High School.  Armstrong golfed for the Blue Knights during the 1993-94 season for Head Coach Bill Blazer.  He graduated with a degree in business from Miami University in 1996, and he spent 2 years as an assistant golf professional at the Little Turtle Country Club in Westerville, Ohio.  Currently, Armstrong is the bank manager at the Fifth Third Bank in Urbana.

The men's golf team has experienced great growth over the past year.  Nine new recruits joined the squad in 2009.  The team's fall season concluded last week at the Wittenberg Fall Invitational, where 4 of the 6 lowest scores came from a group of talented freshmen.
