Stephan Sets the Pace in Blue Knights' Final Fall Race

Andy Stephan ran the 6th fastest 8K in school history at the Wilmington Fall Classic.WILMINGTON, Ohio (October 16, 2009) - The Urbana University men's cross country team ran their final race of the 2009 season on Friday at Ohio Wilmington University's Fall Classic.  In a record-setting field of 265 runners, the Blue Knights were led by sophomore Andy Stephan's 28:54.  Stephan's time is the 6th fastest in school history.  After his first season as a Blue Knight, Stephan (pictured) now owns 4 of the top 6 times in the school's 2-year cross country history.  He also owns the fastest 5K time in school history.  He finished in 115th place overall, averaging an incredible 5:48 per mile in the 8K race.

Finishing right behind Stephan was sophomore runner Eddie Erion.  Erion ran a 29:19, which was good for the 8th fastest time in school history.  In Erion's 2 years at Urbana, he owns 6 of the top 10 times at Urbana.  He finished in 131st at Wilmington.  Stephan and Erion finished 1-2 for the Blue Knights at every race this season.

Rounding out the teams' times were sophomore Jeremy Danner (34:11), senior Andrew Hoban (34:21), sophomore Josh Sexton (34:36), and sophomore Andrew Morrow (37:10).  Danner, Hoban and Sexton all averaged under 7 minutes per mile during the 8K race.  The Blue Knights finished in 24th place out of 26 teams.  Their 2009 season is now complete.  [Full Race Results]

Blue Knights Not Competing in All-Ohio Run

URBANA, Ohio (October 2, 2009) - The Urbana University men's and women's cross country teams will not be competing in the All-Ohio Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan University today.  Team members decided to remain on campus in order to attend the memorial services for freshmen women's soccer player Andia Shisler.  The services are being held from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. today in the Grimes Center Gymnasium.  Head Coach Al Davenport announced the team's decision this morning.  The Blue Knights will finish the season in 2 weeks at the Wilmington Invitational.

Blue Knights Repeat Performance at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio (September 26, 2009) - The Urbana University men's cross country team gathered on a rainy Saturday morning to run at the Otterbein Invitational. For the second week in a row, the Blue Knights finished in 14th place.  Sixteen teams competed in the event.  Mount Union won the race.

Finishing first again for the Blue Knights was Andy Stephan in a time of 28:47, just 10 seconds off his pace from last week. Stephan took 78th place in a field of 178 runners.  Finishing next in the mud for Urbana was Eddie Erion, running a 29:40. Jeremy Danner ran a 34:17. Josh Sexton had a time of 35:03 in the 8K race, and Andrew Morrow rounded out the Blue Knights' results with a 35:16.

The Blue Knights compete again next Friday at the All-Ohio Meet hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on October 2nd. [Full Race Results]

Blue Knights Finish in 14th at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (September 19, 2009) - On Saturday, the Blue Knights competed at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational. Urbana's men's team placed 14th out of 17 teams. Shawnee State won the event.

Eddie Erion finished 2nd for UU at Cedarville, right behind Andy Stephan.  Erion had the biggest improvement of the week, shaving 35 seconds off last week's time.The dynamic duo of Andy Stephan and Eddie Erion ran the first mile at a blazing 5:14 pace. Stephan finished the 8K in 28:37, followed by Erion's 29:12. Both times were top 5 times in Urbana's 2-year cross country history.  Erion (pictured) showed the biggest improvement from last week's race at Wittenberg.  He cut an impressive 35 seconds off last week's time.

Jeremy Danner finished next for the Blue Knight in 34:05, followed by Andrew Hoban's 34:12 and Josh Sexton's 35:33.    Like Erion, Hoban also made a big jump, taking 24 seconds off his time at Wittenberg.

Stephan's Strong Run Leads UU to 3rd Place

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (September 12, 2009) - The improvement continues for the Urbana University men's cross country team.  The Blue Knights ran one of their best races of the season on Saturday morning at the Wittenberg Invitational. On a very flat race course with real warm weather, the team placed 3rd of 4 teams.  The Blue Knights were paced by sophomore transfer Andy Stephan who placed 6th in the men's 8K.  The host Tigers from Wittenberg grabbed 7 of the top 8 positions, with Urbana's Stephan the only runner from another school to crack the Tigers' stronghold in the top 8 places.  Stephan was followed closely by his teammate, sophomore Eddie Erion, who placed 14th.  Rounding out the Blue Knights finishers were Jeremy Danner in 27th place,  and Josh Sexton, Andrew Morrow, and Andrew Hoban finishing back-to-back-to-back in 36th, 37th, and 38th places.

Stephan, Danner, and Morrow set personal records under the ideal conditions, and Urbana was just 11 points away from a runner-up finish.  Wittenberg took first, followed by Capital, Urbana, and Cincinnati Christian University.  The Blue Knights run next at the Cedarville Invitational next Saturday, September 19th. Blue Knights Take 5th at Flyer 5K

Newcomer Andrew Stephan set the pace for the Blue Knights with a record-breaking 17:11 in the Flyer 5K.DAYTON, Ohio (September 5, 2009) - On a hot morning with a little bit of a breeze, the Blue Knights' cross country teams took the course at the University of Dayton on a perfect day to run a cross country race. The men's team showed great improvement after running in this same event, the Flyer 5K, last year. 

Leading the way for the men was newcomer Andrew Stephan (Piqua, Ohio/Troy Christian HS), running a 17:11 and setting a new record in a 5K event for the men's team.  Both Stephan and Eddie Erion (Columbus, Ohio/Whetstone HS) ran the first mile in 5:05, keeping up with the leaders.  Erion finished the course in 17:49, just 1 second off his record-setting pace at last year's race.  Next for the Blue Knights was Jeremy Danner (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel HS) in at 20:04, followed by Andrew Morrow (Westerville, Ohio/North HS) and Josh Sexton (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel HS) in at 20:37 and 20:38, respectively.

The team finished in 5th place overall in the Intercollegiate Division.  Next Saturday, the Blue Knights are running at the Wittenberg Invitational at 10:30 a.m.  Wittenberg finished just ahead of Urbana in 4th place at the Flyer 5K. [Full Race Results]
