COLUMBUS, Georgia (March 6, 2010) - The Urbana University baseball team dropped their first decision on Spring Break, falling by a score of 9-1 at #8 Columbus State University. In their last outing, the nationally-ranked Cougars swept 3 straight games against the defending national champs from Lynn University. Urbana entered the game undefeated at 4-0, but the Blue Knights couldn't overcome 2 long balls hit by the Cougars' first basemen Justin Rogers. Rogers hit a 3-run home run in the 6th inning, and added a game-clinching 2-run bomb in the 8th.
Urbana answered Rogers' 6th inning home run in the top of the 7th. Senior Steve Froese led off the inning with a double. Froese scored on an RBI-single by junior Matt Mays, but Mays was thrown out trying to advance to second on the play and the Blue Knights' scoring threat ended.
The Cougars (14-2) added an insurance run in the 7th, and Rogers put the game out of reach with his 4th and 5th RBIs in the 8th. The win was Columbus State's 13th straight. The Blue Knights (4-1) and Cougars will face off again tomorrow afternoon in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. [Box Score]
